How Did We Eat So Much?! Lots of Pics + DxDDP + DCL! *UPDATES 7/12*

I love your reviews! Your daughter's comments on her food are hilarious- so cute! I did not know that Chef Mickey's has crab claws!!! Were they warm or cold?? I may have to be making a visit there!

Subbing to this what a great job you are doing !! We went to Garden Grill and totally agree it is excellent . Donalds Tusker House is another great one !!

I can't believe you're updating while you're so sick.
 I had to do something to keep myself upright and awake through DD's "movie night."

I know I am nowhere near on track with the TR anymore, but I felt like it had been AGES since I had added a new review. :confused3

yay Chef Mickey! Love, love, love Willow's outfit. The bow is so perfect. She looks adorable.
Thanks! I really love how it all came out - definitely one of my favorite things I have ever made. Minnie loved it too. ;)

Thank you so much for joining in! The crab claws were chilled. We really had a great time at CM, and the food was all pretty good.

Welcome!!!!! Thank you so much!

I was so impressed with both Garden Grill and Tusker House - I'm just mad we hadn't tried them before. They will be regular places for us to visit now. :thumbsup2

I was skimming through your reviews since I noticed you had dined at FF and Chef Mickey's, two that we are considering. I'm not a huge fish fan so I'm still not sure about that one. :confused3

Your DD's outfit at Chef Mickey's is adorable! Very clever and fitting for the location. I can imagine Minnie must have gushed over it.

In going back and reading your YSH review I think your meal would have been so much better had you had a different server. Unfortunately they can make all the difference in the dining experience and for a Signature restaurant I would think Disney would have higher standards. Sorry you felt ill after that meal. Your DD's dessert looks like something that I want to order! However, the crème brulee is pretty tasty. :)

Well, I'm glad you stopped by! I actually started reading your apparently epic DR last night. I will be following along in real time once I get through it all. :thumbsup2

Thank you!! I started sewing for the first time a few months before the trip - I was really happy with how all the parts (dress, bow, apron) of that outfit came out. Minnie did love it, as did Mickey! :thumbsup2

I agree completely, and we will definitely try YSH again - the food was very good, but it was definitely tainted by the poor service. If we had had excellent service, I know that I would have been RAVING about the place.

Willow (DD) loved that dessert - she ordered it quite a few times at the signatures.

Breakfast at ‘Ohana

To continue in our character dining frenzy, we decided to try breakfast at ‘Ohana for the first time. For those who don’t know, this meal features visits from Lilo, Stitch, Mickey and Pluto. And it is not a buffet - platters of breakfast goodies are brought to the table, and Mickey waffles are brought around as well. You also get to pose for a picture prior to the meal, and that picture and print are included with PhotoPass+.

I don’t remember much at all about our server here. :confused3 I’m guessing service was fine. Obviously not good or bad enough to be memorable! The chef who came out was very nice and provided me with a separate platter of breakfast foods, including gluten-free Mickey waffles.

Unfortunately, the info that I can provide on the food here is somewhat limited by the fact that I just wasn’t hungry at all for this meal. I ate part of a Mickey waffle and not a whole lot else.

First up was a plate of fruit (sorry so blurry). Everything was fresh and tasty (to the extent that we really ate it, which wasn’t a lot.)

Along with the fruit were some gluten-filled goodies on which I really can’t report.

And I think the same juice that they have at the other “delicious juice” breakfast locations. (Again, I’m not a juice person, so I just can’t rave about this the way most people do.)

This huge platter was brought out just for me! :scared1:

I am certain everything was very tasty - I just wasn’t feeling the food thing this morning at all. What I did taste was very good, especially the Mickey waffle!

DD got a plate as well.

And Mickey waffles.

Of course, we were here for the characters. The character interaction here was okay. The tables and chairs are really crowded in, and it was hard for the characters to make their way through. Also, we had one of our weirdest character moments here ever with a Pluto who could only be described as a thug. :confused3 (For details, you can visit my TR if you want - I won’t fill up space on here with it.)

Here are the characters though!

Would we return to ‘Ohana for breakfast? Hmm, I think we would. If we had been hungrier and hadn’t had the weird experience with Pluto, I would probably be raving about this experience. So we will give it another try at some point. :thumbsup2

We love Ohana and have an ADR for next month- we're very excited! The food looks great. Actually, those breakfast potatoes look very different from the ones we've had before. They look less greasy and a bit more healthy- which is something I would love ;)

Were they prepared a certain way due to your gluten free diet?

By the way, i'm heading over to read your TR now- I must hear about this "thug" Pluto!

I think it is a really fun and tasty breakfast!

I wish my picture of DD's platter were better, but it *looks* like her potatoes were the same as mine. But it is certainly possible that they could have been prepared differently.

 Pluto was definitely very out of sorts! :scared:

Crystal Palace Lunch

We had not originally planned on going to CP this trip, but when DD found out that Eeyore wouldn’t be available anywhere else, I had to add an ADR at CP!

For those who don’t know, Crystal Palace is a character meal (of course!) featuring Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger. It is a lot of fun! The meal is buffet style and offers a wide variety of choices.

We had good service here with a server who kept drinks filled and checked on us regularly. And the chef was lovely - he took us around the buffet and showed me everything that was safe, which was a TON of surprising choices! He also makes his own gluten-free brownie!

And we really enjoyed the food here - a lot more than I expected to. Part of that for me was that I had a lot of nice options.

DD’s nutritious servings of mac and cheese and corn dog nuggets. I don’t think she even tried the nuggets, but she loves that Disney mac and cheese.

My first plate featured green salad, cucumber salad, broccoli, and apparently mashed potatoes. :confused3

DD, of course, had to have some chicken nuggets too to round out her healthy Disney meal.

For my main course plate, I apparently had some more mashed potatoes, the salmon, a corn spoonbread (gluten-free!), rice noodles, a chicken dish over basmati rice.

The specially made gluten-free brownie! This was rich and delicious!

I would bet money that DD had dessert here, but apparently I didn’t get a picture of it. :confused3

Characters

Character interaction here is good - they don’t usually stay long in our experience, but we have never had a bad experience with them and have never waited too long for any of them.

So glad you enjoyed your meal at CP! You're making me reconsider my stance on the place :rotfl:

They really do offer a ton of GF choices! That's great!

I have a ton of catching up to do over here too!

Love your review of Garden Grill. I haven't tried it yet but we almost made an ADR this time. I wasn't sure about the food but you make it sound very good! That salad and the butter sounds incredible! It looks really good from the pictures too so I'll have to make it a priority for the future.

We'll be having dinner at Akershus next week. It will be my third time there! I love the Princesses, so I don't mind ;) Especially the chance to see Belle in her yellow dress, my favorite! If only I could wear a costume like Willow's to the parks ;) I'll be visiting with my friend from Norway who will be in WDW for the first time, and he's the one that requested to eat at the Norwegian place, haha! I warned him it's not the most authentic and the princesses live there, but I think he's looking forward to it!

I've never done Le Cellier because quite frankly, the dinner menu didn't appeal to me. I wanted to try it for lunch when they still had the lunch menu, but then they got rid of it! So we haven't made it a priority. I don't like mushrooms, which seems to be in a majority of their dishes. I don't know if I could order the Filet without the mushroom risotto, or what they might give me instead! But I'd feel a little silly ordering the Mushroom Filet Mignon without mushrooms ;)

Flying Fish is super high on my must try list, since DH and I are both big seafood fans. We only do one signature or more expensive meal a trip though, so this one hasn't made our list quite yet. Your appetizer in particular looks really good. Not only does it sound yummy, it's really unique too! Definitely not something I would have thought about ordering! It's unfortunate that the service was bad, though :( That can definitely ruin even a great meal.

Tusker House is definitely one of the best breakfasts I've had at Disney. Unfortunately though, when I'm paying OOP I just never feel like I get my money's worth, since I'm not a big breakfast eater! But I would probably rate Tusker House as my #1 breakfast location, with Cape May coming in close behind.

We will be doing Chef Mickey's for the first time in February! For breakfast though, not dinner. I'm excited to experience it though! I must admit, the crab claws look great - bet they won't have those at breakfast! ;)

Speaking of me not liking breakfasts too much, I must say that the one at Ohana's looks pretty good! We may have to try that!

Does Crystal Palace have a lot of variety in food? That's what I seem to remember from my last time there. I think it would be a good option with my family, because we have some people that are a bit more picky when it comes to eating ;)

Stick with Tusker House, or go with Crystal Palace or 1900 Park Fare of Chef Mickey's breakfast. I'll never go there again for breakfast :x

I'm counting down the days to our next trip and your reviews are helping me pass the time! I have to say, I love your daughter's comments about her food!

My mom and dad had a dinner at Flying Fish in October and also were disappointed. It had been one of our family's favorite restaurants for a long time but their experience put a bad taste in our mouths. My mom is vegan and all they were willing to make for her was a salad for an appetizer and a plate of slightly cooked vegetables for her main meal. The chef and server made it sound like it would be an imposition to make any alterations to any of the dishes on the menu to accommodate her :( So with your review now I'm re-thinking having meals there during future trips :confused3

All caught up! I look forward to reading more about your gf experience because it seems I will have to go GF too soon.

 We really did enjoy lunch a lot. Plus, it was just such a nice break from the heat!

I had an absolutely wonderful variety at CP. I was worried about the buffets going in, but in reality, they ended up being about the best choices for eating GF. Who knew!?

I have a ton of catching up to do over here too!
Welcome back! and I certainly gave you plenty of time to catch up, didn't I? I have been so swamped with work this week, I haven't updated anything in ages. :( Planning to rectify that tonight! :thumbsup2

I am not kidding -it was an absolute blast. Out of the bazillion places we dined, it was seriously one of my favorites. The food isn't signature or anything, but it is good (CRACK SALAD!), and the character interaction cannot be beat!

Love Akershus! I'm glad you do too. I must know what your friend from Norway thinks of it!!!! Please share!

I have seen a lot of people on the DIS order the filet without mushrooms and sub the mashed potatoes! They rave about it. :thumbsup2 Honestly, I wouldn't bother with LC except that we had a lot of dining credits to use, and we needed a signature lunch. :confused3

The appetizer was VERY good. I was disappointed that the signature snapper was so dry, because I had really been looking forward to that. The real kicker was the terrible service though. I would try it again, but if we had a similar experience, I wouldn't be back for a long time.
