How did the Star Wars hotel connect to the park?

I thought it basically had a door or elevator directly entering Galaxy’s Edge but seeing photos of the recent conversion, it looks like it was set off far more than I ever realized. Anyone know how guests got in and out?

I seemed to recall people talking about taking some sort of shuttle bus to/from the park & hotel. I don't believe it was within walking distance.

You're right about the shuttle bus. The distance isn't really that far but it would have destroyed the theming as the back side of GE is not intended to be seen. It's all raw steel and concrete.

This picture also appears they use an entrance not accessible to the general public. You would have to walk to the main HS entrance where all other guests enter the park. Disney generally discourages people walking around since it causes issues with traffic and most things are much farther apart than is practical to walk.

The shuttle “Dock” remains apparent in Galaxy’s Edge. It’s on the “First Order” side of Galaxy’s Edge, near Kylo Ren’s ship, the blue milk stand, and the bathrooms coming from Toy Story Land.

I’ve seen guests use it as a rain shelter 😅

Ah, so that's where you entered. Wished they could've kept the hotel. DH and my boys would've liked it (not so much the cosplay aspect/role playing). And even though we could've afforded the stay, just couldn't justify the price for the length of stay. Oh well, RIP

Yes, lots of older discussions about the success/failure of the Star Wars themed hotel. A 100 room hotel that was the most expensive place to stay at Disney never seemed like it would appeal to a wide enough audience. Seemed that money could have been better used expanding/adding rides at one of the parks that would have benefited far more visitors. Mostly a one-and-done experience for a very limited audience who were REALLY into Star Wars and could afford it. Now Disney is stuck trying to repurpose this vacant property.

Disney is not stuck trying, they are already working to move Imagineers to the facility. This was announced earlier this year. It is a win win situation. They got to write off the failure, and also reuse the facility.
