I've been trying to read as much as I can about the whole Jaycee Lee Dugard issue, and I am astounded at one thing: How did Garrido only serve 11 years after kidnapping & then repeatedly raping his first victim?

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=8460220

An excerpt:

Garrido, now a registered sex offender, was sentenced to 50 years to life for Hall's rape and a life sentence for the kidnapping, but he was out by 1988 after 11 years -- three years before Jaycee was kidnapped.

During his trial he admitted to being a peeping Tom and to having strong rape urges.

I hope this animal dies a painful death in jail :headache::mad:

I wondered about this too - why the H was he let out of jail after only 11 years?!

On the news the other night, they played a small excerpt of the phone call he had with a reporter where he said some BS about "the truth will come out" or some such nonsense. I'm so sorry that this poor woman was subjected to his terror for 19 years, and I hope this time they lock him up and throw away the key.

I'm curious about his wife. Was she a victim of his or was she just as sick as he was? When is the law going to realize that some monsters cannot be rehabbed?

Screwed up justice system!!! Somebody probably forgot to dot an i or cross a t.

He should have been thrown in a deep, dark hole. As matter of fact, that is where he should go now.

His current wife apparently hooked up with him at some point during his 11 years in prison. She must be a gem as well. That's another thing I don't understand...these women that are fascinated with men serving time for heinous crimes. Didn't Ted Bundy receive tons of marriage proposals while in prison? Ugh, it's a sick world :(

It's no mystery.

They let him out because 1) they believed that he wouldn't repeat his crime and 2) they believed that the additional steps taken (lifetime parole, sex offender registration, GPS monitoring) would protect the public if they were wrong. Truthfully, it should have. After all, he was being monitored via GPS on teh day that he kidnapped Jaycee. A little bit of police work and they would have gotten her back that day and locked him back up where he belonged.

He obviously had someone fooled that he was a better person. I can understand him getting out of prison because it happens all the time. That doesn't make it right though.

What I can't understand is when the police were investigating a call at his home three years ago about kids living in his back yard, why did the officer take his story for face value and not even look in the back yard. That in my opinion is negligent and inexcusable.

Wackadoodles. :confused3
