How Dard is the Wilderness Lodge

In a lot of the photos I have seen the setting at the Wilderness Lodge appears dark. Is the lobby and resort on the inside very dark? I know that is part of the theme, but it appears darker than what I would expect.
Any comments would be helpful.
Thanks,
ADP :D

Before I stayed there last year, I read a lot of posts that commented on the rooms being very dark.

I did not find this to be the case. The colors of the rooms tend to be darker than some, lots of browns and dark greens, but I found the lighting to be more than adequate.

That said, I had a King bed room, so I can't speak to how the lighting is affected by the bunkbeds in some of the rooms.

The lobby tends to be darker, but in a more subdued way, not in a 'I can't see anything way'. It is part of the theme. It is not as bright as some of the other resort lobbies like GF, CR or POR, but that has to do with the theming and the coloring of those lobbies and this one.

We stayed at WL last May in a room with bunk beds. At night the bunk beds are rather dark but that wasn't a bad thing for us since it helped DD sleep and let us have a light on to read/watch TV. The lobby is dark in a soothing way. It was nice after being in the hot sun to come into the darkened lobby.

Verry...verry dark. All incoming guests are now issued flashlights upon checking in. Those under 3 are given head lights(like miners use). Savvy return guests pack additional lamps& 100 watt bulbs . ;) :p

If you talking about the lobby, the wood is more of a "natural" color and isn't bright like some other lobbies are painted. There's plenty of windows that allow exterior light in. I'd describe the look as "warm" instead of "dark".

I agree, I thought there was plenty of light in the rooms. We had a room with a queen size bed and bunkbeds. No problem at all with the room being too dark. It was perfect!

Of all the resorts we've stayed at, we found the common areas and rooms at WL and AKL to be the darkest. Did it bother us? No!
I've heard that some people bring brighter lightbulbs for their rooms.
Now for a different perspective. My father is legally blind from macular degeneration. He needs bright light for the little he can see. We stayed at the AKL with my parents and then took them on a tour of all the resorts (this was their first time). My father was relieved that not all the resorts were as dark as the AKL. He did not wish to stay at the WL but liked the YC, BC, GF, CR, and BW because they seemed much brighter. For him the room at AKL was too dark and he had to feel his way around. For someone without a vision problem, I think the lighting is fine. WL is darker than the other resorts but there certainly is no problem seeing. If that were the case, Disney would have a liability issue on their hands.
WL is a beautifully themed resort!

I wanted to agree with the "darkness" having appeal. So much of the WDW experience is bright with blazing sunshine, it is a relief to come into a more subdued atmosphere. I would think it would help calm down the younger members if your group as well.
