How crowded are the laundry facilities at the values?

Our trip in a couple of weeks will be our first non-DVC trip on-site since before we had kids (we're staying at Art of Animation). Therefore, this will be the first trip without a washer and dryer in our room. We hope to pack enough that we don't have to do laundry, but with a family of 5 for 8 nights, that's asking a lot. So, if we do have to do laundry, do the rooms get crowded? Can it be hard to find an open machine, or do there seem to be plenty to go around?

When we stayed at POP all the machines were always available. I do not believe you will have any issues finding an open machine.

At AOA, each section, Cars, Nemo, & Lion King have thier own laundry area. We stayed in the Cars, ours was never busy. They are by the pool area.
I am not for sure about the Mermaid section, I would think that they would have their own too.

Never had a problem. We did laundry while we used the pool in the afternoon. Also, bring your own detergent. The ones they sell at the resort can be pricey and this way if your family is partial to a certain brand you can still use it. I loved the Purex sheets that were sold in the past. Detergent and dryer sheet all in one.....hard to find here now.

In October of 2011 we were there for 11 days so I had to do laundry about half way through the trip. We were at ASMu and the laundry room around 7 pm was full. I found one open washer and once the washer was done I had to wait a half hour before a dryer opened up.

It was kind of a PITA. I think it would have been much better if I had gotten up around 6 am and went down there while everybody else was asleep and it wouldn't have been busy.

Last trip where we took all 5 of us we were there for 9 days and I made everybody take enough clothes to last them the whole trip. I told them to rewear pants two days and just take a shirt and underwear for every day.

We always have done our laundry during our mid day break. Everybody is still in the park and it's really empty in the laundry. With two adults one stays with the kids while they rest in the hotel or swim and one does laundry.
