How crazy is Universal/Islands of Adventure the week of 4th of July?

Planning a trip, and also planning on getting either VIP or Express tickets, but want to know what kind of crowds to expect and also, do they do anything special for 4th of July?

VIP tickets will certainly help during that week since it's very busy...very humid...and you'll have very long lines everywhere. Nothing special has been done for July 4th but there is a new nighttime show at the Studios that will start up soon so maybe something will be done this year.

We were there July 4-7 and it was really not bad. July 4th itself was actually strangely not crowded. I don't know if everyone thought it was a bad day to go so they stayed home but it was weird. The other days were busier. I've never been when it's off-season so i don't have anything to compare it to. We stay onsite so it's never a problem to begin with.
