How crazy crowded will the first night of Marti Gras be? Is it worth doing?

I'm going to be staying in universal though what seems to be the beginning of their Marti Gras celebration.. They have Saturday Feb7th listed as their first concert night.. does this mean thats Friday won't have any marti gras stuff and that the crowd starts on Saturday?

Any help on what to expect would be appreciated! Thanks

Following. This will be our first Mardi Gras. Touring plans has Saturday Feb 6 listed as a 5 out of 10 day. The rest of the week is listed as 2 or 3. I been wondering just how accurate that is especially since there are not a lot of hotel rooms available on site that week. I did finally score a room at Cabana Bay for Feb 7-12
