How crazy are the airports the day/weekend after Thanksgiving?

I am currently planning a trip to WDW for next year and I was thinking of leaving on the Friday after Thanksgiving. How bad are the airports? Would we be better off waiting till Saturday or Sunday? I have never flown around a holiday and don't know what to expect. When is the best time to fly around Thanksgiving?

Hi Cindy,

The Sunday of Thaknsgiving weekend is one of the busiest days at airports (and on roads). If you are going to fly around then, Thanksgiving Day and Friday are probably the two best days in terms of crowds.

Thanks for the quick reply. We really don't want to fly on Thursday, since we always have a big Thanksgiving dinner at my parents. I thought Friday might be a good time (I figured most people fly the day before Thanksgiving and go home over the weekend) but since I have never flown around any holiday I wasn't sure. I guess I could wait and see what it is like this year and judge it by that.
