So my mother and I are debating whether or not to take my kids down to Florida to visit my sister since last time my mom and daughter both got sick and didn't get to to do much..We have to wait until after June 9, since we can not take my daughter out of school.. We are thinking of going down for about 3 nights/4 days total and we can stay with my sister and my sister's boyfriend can get us into disney for free..i know it will be busy since anytime kids are out of school ANY resort is busy but how busy are we talking? Are we crazy to try to do a quick trip during that time? DS is 17months now and I am sure I will need to buy him a seat, does Southwest offer any kind of discount on that? I have an airfare credit to cover part of my ticket so we are hoping to keep airfare under $150 a person, which I think we should be ok..we are even considering my mother and daughter taking allegiant and my son and I taking Southwest, yes i know they fly out of different cities, just to keep costs down..the only other cost I'm thinking we might have is a rental car since we have 4 of us and then you have to add my sister and her boyfriend and they only have smaller cars..we would send down a box of food a head of time to help those costs..what else am i missing? well, yes we will have SOME money for spending, i'm thinking about $300 is that enough? Am I crazy to try to take the kids during June? and if not when in June would be the BEST time to go? thanks!

We went the second week of June last year. The crowds were not that bad, but for the popular rides wait times were approaching an hour in the afternoons and evenings. If you get there at rope drop and fast pass the important rides, you should be okay. As far as cost, I don't know what to say. I am trying to book airfare for this summer and having a hard time finding a bargain. Good luck!

it was more crowded than January and October but very manageable [thanks to touringplans.com].

Weather was PERFECT. It was nice to enjoy the pool during the afternoon.

Not too hot.

Rained a couple afternoons.

Early June isn't a bad time to go. Now that my oldest is in middle school and it is harder to take him out of school, that's probably the time we will go again. Our most recent trips have been Thanksgiving and July and those were definitely worse times to go! Your 17 month old is not required to purchase a plane ticket although it would be the safest route to go. Unfortunately there are no really good discounts for children. They take up the same seat as an adult and we've always had to buy the same ticket for every member of our family of 5 once our kids turned 2 years. If you had to purchase a last minute ticket they might have some kind of child discount but that is when the price of the ticket might be $800 and the child price might be $400. It is cheaper to buy in advance for the whole family when the fares are low.

well right now airfare is not bad, only $79 each way and according to their website they do offer discounted infant tickets but not sure, that might be more than the lowest rate..i know DS could just sit on my lap which we MIGHT do but i'd be worried he'd get too bored and want to walk around since he's at the terrible 2 stage...

We'd have to go middle June, well we COULD leave the night of the 9th but that would be pushing it...we just want to take a short trip, my daughter has been asking to go and wants to see my sister and wants to go to disney since she was so sick the last time...keep the info coming:goodvibes

We went one time in early June for a few nights before driving back north to Myrtle Beach. The crowds weren't horrible but be prepared for rain. It rained hard in the afternoon/evenings every day we were there. Still had fun though and if we had to would do another June trip. Use the fast passes!

We are also thinking about going in June- but probably not until next June. Our other option is next March over spring break. When do you think crowds would be lighter? How is weather in March?

Haven't gone in June (until this year), but have gone in July and August and as long as you plan, I didn't think either of those were that bad.

As someone mentioned previously, you arrive at rope drop and maximize the morning hours. We have taken advantage of TGM's green days and his park touring plans and even at those busiest times (and we went during Christmas once - another busy time) and we've never waited more than 30 minutes for any ride! And those were for ones later in the day that we wanted to ride a second (or third) time.

Also, be sure to stay hydrated.

I don't think you are crazy!!! :confused3 I hope you all have lots of fun!! pixiedust:

We have gone in June the past three years. It is not that bad the wait times are not even that bad and the weather is hot but not unbearable. We did get a afternoon storm a few days but they last for about 30 to 45 minutes then it was fine. Make sure you take Ponchos!

We're considering early June as well. We usually go during Easter week so I would imagine crowds would be the same as what we're used to or less.

At least we can get a room discount now that Disney extended it through 8/14!

Maybe it won't be crowded. Harry Potter opens at Universal at the end of May.....maybe everyone will be over there instead! ;)

I hope you're not crazy - we're going the last week of May/1st week of June. We went the first week of August one year. Now that was crazy! We still had fun though.

We are going the first week, same as last year. I see Memorial Day is that Monday so I'm thinking the crowds will be high. We are so used to the end of September that it seems super crowded to us.

We went to WDW for the first time over our spring break and we're doing it again this year. The weather was gorgeous last time--highs around 80 and lows around 60. Our only choices were spring break or summer--I figured it would be crowded either way, so I'd rather have my kids whining in line in cool temps. rather than the heat/humidity of summer. LOL Crowds weren't bad at all though. We got there at rope drop, used fast passes and saw everything we wanted to see--no long waits at all. Last time the crowd calendar showed all 9's for our days, this time it's all 7's with a few 5's...we'll probably feel like we have the parks to ourselves!! :rotfl:

OP--don't let anyone discourage you if June's when you want to go. (Though everyone posting here is super supportive.) When I was planning our first trip, everyone told me how crazy I was for going over spring break and that it was going to be awful. So I was all worried for nothing! We had a great time.

Good luck with your decision and have a wonderful trip!

I always have found that whatever we're doing...if it involves Florida...if you can get there the first week or two in June, most people are still getting settled from school ending and haven't left for vacation yet. So the crowds aren't as bad as if you waited another couple of weeks. With early June, you miss the biggest hit of humidity.

Our last trip was during the second week of June and we had a great time. We did follow our touringplans itinerary pretty closely. We did have some wait times and occasional afternoon showers, but not as bad as I was worried about. Having said that...you must plan your date for Hollywood Studios with Star Wars weekends in mind. We were there on those dates on purpose because my 8 year old is a Star Wars fan, but if you are not, then you will want to avoid that park on the weekends. It is crowded, but we had so much fun!

if you must go in the summer, the 1st week of june and the last week of august are your best bets.
some schools are in session, some are still testing or getting ready for their first days back, so crowds are a bit more managable.
we've found the temps in august higher, but the crowds a bit lower, so it's a tradeoff :confused3

side note: we've found no time compares to the first week of may though: gorgeous weather (warm, but not humid, little if any rain), low crowds.....absolutely perfect :cloud9:

I would LOVE to go in May, especially since that's my sister's birthday but with DD in school that just won't work out..and maybe we won't have such a problem since Disney is not the ONLY thing we'd be doing, we'd be visiting local sites too..thanks everyone!

June isn't so bad but it can get HOT and crowded in the afternoons. Plan accordingly particularly when it comes to AK. Rope drop becomes real important in the summer.
