How come we don't get any postcards?

I see on the board that some people get post cards/flyers from WDW w/ disc. codes to invite them back. We had our honeymoon there Dec. of '02, and we went back Dec. '03 and we're heading back again in May.

The last two trips, we booked directly through WDW, and this time as well. And each time when we go to the parks, we see CM's standing around asking everyone for their zip codes. The first time, the CM asked us to help on the survey when we told them our zip code, this time the we told the CM our zip and they said, thank you have a great day!

We just bougt out APs before our last trip, and we still don't receive anything from them. I don't mean to sound whiny, I'm just curious as to how we can get on their..."LIST". No matter what, discount or not (of course I would LOVE some discount codes from them, still waiting on AP ones), we would still go to WDW and pay the full price if we have too. I just want to see why it is some ppl get codes, and others don't.

Thanks! :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

I'm curious about this too (and a little bit jealous of those who get the discounts)!

I called and the lady said it was completely random. By the way she told me it almost sounds like they sent them randomly to target areas that have a lower percentage of people who visit disney.

 Don't feel bad, you're in good company!;)

After all the $$$$ we've spent at WDW, you'd think they send us a postcard!
Nope!

I just book what I want, what we can afford, and if we get a code or discount...great!
If not, we're still going to WDW!::yes::

A lot of the postcards and offers that are sent out are not 'rewards' they are for marketing, to lure people to wdw.

Most of these marketing plans target specific areas or demographics to get an idea about how they react, what prices they will pay, what time of year, etc.

Given the rise of forums such as this one and the tendancy for everyone who gets a postcard to post about it, I'm would think that Disney would be looking at other methods of marketing.

There has already been a change, since many of the postcards now have a pin number to prevent everyone from trying to use a code. If the codes are used by everyone who finds them on a board such as this than the marketing data is absolutely useless.

Sometimes wdw will do 'reward' type marketing, like the comeback rates that were offered at the end of 2002 and beginning of 2003 to some visitors.

It is interesting that Disney does not use a mailing list or similar type of marketing, but I think they use the AP rates in a fashion similar to some of the mailing lists that I belong to for Vegas resorts. They send you a great rate, but it usually goes only about three months out at a time. The idea being to lure a frequent visitor back on short notice to fill left over rooms.

OK, that about covers what I remember from marketing 101 :p .

We got a post card once, and I had just registered on Disney's website and taken our first trip to Disney a couple of months earlier and stayed off-site. So, in our case, I think they were simply trying to lure us back and get us to stay on-site.

Sorry if I've repeated this on other threads, but I think it's hilarious that the one and only time I ever got a post card was when I already had a ressie booked with a great public discount code. I then called CRO, used the post card, and saved another bundle! I wonder if they realized that they didn't have to "lure" me, since I was already booked!
I hope I get another post card this time!

I know, I'm just odd, I HATE getting junk mail from any other company, but the one company that I want "junk" mail from doesn't send it!

I guess they know I'm a sucker and I'll go back no matter what. hee hee.
;)

But even with the AP's, I'm STILL waiting for the discounts to come out for May. I don't want to sound frugal, but every penny saved helps! ;)

I got a postcard once and like Aisling I was already booked at a Disney Resort. The good thing was we were going to be staying at ASMovies for the first time and with the discount I was able to switch to AKL for almost the same price. There was hardly a difference in the rack rate I almost pd. for an AS. Needless to stay we were more then thrilled and really lucked out. At AKL we were upgraded from a standard room to a savannah room with bunks.

I think that's very true, especially for FL residents. We agonized over and over about whether to stay onsite or offsite for our anniversary (I do like the excitement of Priceline sometimes!). After checking offsite rates against the FL res springtime rates, we booked onsite. That rate made us finally decide to do WDW rather than Busch Gardens and Sea World AND stay onsite instead of offsite.

I've never received a postcard but just about weekly I receive the credit card offer.

We have never gotten one either. Our last trip my sister joined us for 3 days. She recieved a postcard recently. I think they are sent to get people to come back. We are a sure thing so they don't bother offering the deals to us.
