How come we didn't need to pay at the 1st toll on the Florida Turnpike?

Last month when my family and I were driving South along the Florida Turnpike at the 1st toll we drove up to the attendent said there wasn't a charge. Believe me I am not complaining about not pay that fee, however I am wondering what are the reasons for them not charging us?

Not to be a wise guy, but, why didn't you ask the attendant? Possible reason: there was a storm and the power was out. I know during one of the hurricanes(before and after it hit) a few years ago, they were not charging on any of the toll roads, no power.

Who knows...but as the pp mentioned, it would have been smarter to ask the attendant. Not sure why anyone here would know....pretty sure it was a one time occurance.
And with that in mind, I'm going to close this down before it gets 'edgy'.
