We booked a room at Grand Calirfornian hotel and tthe Disney rep was telling me about the monorail and that it stops at Disneyland and DTD and only passes through CA.
Has this always been like this and does anyone think Disne will ever put a stop in CA or it's really not needed?

Thanks.

p.s.- We have never been to DL so I do not know the logistics if a monorail stop is needed.

The Monorail started as a Tomorrowland attraction, not a transport option. It was expanded to reach the Disneyland Hotel stopping near it.

I don't think it would fit the theme of DCA, though it does cut through it for a few moment in three different areas.

I always found it odd it doesn't stop in the GCH similiar to the CR.

Granted everything is real close together and the waits to board are longer than it takes to walk between these locations.

It's not really needed at all. DL and CA are soooo close together ( I think I read the entrances are only 100 yards away) that park hopping is super easy and doesn't need a monorail entrance.

I will say that if they did put on in, I would hope they would put it near Carsland/Paradise Pier since that's the back of CA and it would save you a few min over walking, but in the end it's really easy to go back and forth.

Thanks all! We are so excited as WDW lopvers to go to DL for the first time!

At WDW the monorail is heavily used for transportation between resorts and between Epcot and Magic Kingdom/TTC. It covers routes way too far to walk.

At Disneyland the monorail was built more as an attraction than transportation. Its very easy to walk from the DTD station to Tomorrowland inside Disneyland. A park admission pass is required to ride unlike WDW where no ticket is needed.

Even though walking is possible, the monorail is a convenient choice to go from DTD or Disney Hotel to Tomorrowland bypassing walking thru DTD, thru Disneyland gates and on to Tomorrowland.

Enjoy your DLR trip!! Its totally different than WDW but equally fun!!

Having a stop IN DCA would be problematic for those without PHs. It would mean they couldn't ride at all.

They could fairly easily add a "station" for the Monorail, not so easily add track/extend the track.

But I see a major issue, if they were to add a stop inside DCA they would have to check admission at the exit to each station to make sure those disemarking have addmission to that park.

They could add a station to the GC hotel but in reality I don't think it is necessary. Everything is so close & within easy walking distance.

Last year we rode the monorail after our Goofy's breakfast at DLH and we swear we could have gotten there much faster if we walked. It seemed like it took forever. We would have made park opening if it wasn't for the monorail and by the time we got to fantasyland, it was crowded :(

I think the key is not to use the monorail to save time because it is usually not a time saver - but to use it to save your feet!

Yes, I think that's key. Use the monorail because you want to take the ride, not as a time saver.

That's how I feel about riding the train. Grab a snack and relax for a bit, while riding to the other side of the park.

Back in 1993 when we last visited DL, I remember getting off the monorail right in front of the DLH. We walked around the lobby for a bit and then back to the park. It just seems odd that they have redone the stop and made it part of DTD.
I honestly believe that Walt was planning to one-up himself by having the monorail in WDW pass through a hotel, instead of stopping near a hotel! I have always wanted to stay at the Contemporary Resort, in the main building where I could see the MR pass through.

They didn't "redo" the stop per se, they did however removed some of the shops, the monorail restaurant and that area became part of DTD. The DTD monorail stop is in the same place as it was pre-DTD.

The CR is placed where it is to be a compliment to Tomorrowland in the MK. Just like the Monorail in DL was. So in a sense it was fitting to have the Monorail in WDW and CR go together.

The other resorts on the line the Polynesian and Grand Floridian, the monorail runs along the edge and is themed but not physically intergrated into the resort.

We were in Disneyland the first weekend of the Halloween overlay for Space Mtn was introduced. The crowds were horrendous, especially after a parade, so DH and I thought we'd get on the monorail at Tomorrowland and bypass everybuddy and get off at DTD. ahem. DH and I both rent scooters, which is no big deal in WDW because their monorail cars can accommodate more than one scooter at a time, with room left over for strollers. At DLR the monorails are smaller and they will only take one scooter at a time. It would've been quicker to fight the crowds. We haven't ridden the monorail at DLR since.
