How close to your arrival can you cancel a reservation thats already paid for?

My friends have a paid for reservation at All Stars 3/11-3/12. I am a DVC member trying to get them in a studio instead. Can they cancel the All Stars with full refund if I manage to swing this for them?

It's my understanding that you have 5 days prior to your trip to cancel for a refund . . .

It depends on who they booked it with. If it was directly with CRO, they have until 5 days before arrival. If it was with WDTC, they have already passed the cancellation date and will be charged $100 to cancel now. If it was with an independent travel agency, they are subject to the cancellation policy set forth by that travel agency.

Also, I spoke with Tate at CRO about the cancellation which is 5 days, but what I didn't know is that if you have to cancel during this time you don't lose your first night's deposit all together. You can apply it toward you're next trip.
