My response usually depends on who is asking and how they ask.

I have a friend who goes to Door County Wisconsin about 3x/ summer every year and to Las Vegas 1x/year. She asked me why I go to Disney World so much. When she went, she really didn't like it.

I told her that we found a place in the world that makes us happy. We feel comfortable there and at home. I added on that I went to Las Vegas and didn't feel the need to return as it wasn't for me. Then I pointed out, nicely, how her family repeats the same vacations as well, just in a different way. Hopefully we find the thing that makes us tick in life.

Someone else said my kids were lucky to go often. I said "My kids are lucky that they get to come with me while I visit my happy place. I do it for me, not for them." LOL!

I have never quite understood why this question bothers people. There are alot of vacation choices that I don't understand. You could explain camping to me 1,000 times and I still wouldn't get it. I don't get upset when people ask me why I am going to WDW again and I don't defend either...unless the person is sincere in asking...why bother? Just like I know I will never understand camping, I know there are people who will never understand Disney.

I get this ALL THE TIME, as I'm sure all of do. Sometimes, oddly enough, it stumps me. I don't really know how to answer. Some of my responses:

"I LOVE the feeling I get every time I walk through the turn style"
"It's more than an amusement park to me. I love the atmosphere"
"DUH, because it's FUUUN"

How do you all respond to this question when you get it?

Usually, I tell them that I cannot get enough of Disney, and most of the time, they let it drop.

I think, like others have said, that many of them are jealous.

When I read your initial question this morning, though, I did come up with a reply. I would say, "I have seen it ALL 3X's over at home, too, and I keep going back there."

Disney is my home--why wouldn't I want to keep going back!

Anyone that knows me knows I love Disney and all things Disney, so they wouldn't dare even question my need to return. But yeah, DH did after we got back from his 1st trip to WDW and I was already planning my next visit... silly DH. I shared with him a long list of unseens and undones at WDW and after seeing a Disney video on the travel channel and asking me, "Why didn't WE see that?!" numerous times he's starting to get it. Just like Pooh, silly old bear. Some people get it, some people don't. I just smile knowingly and try to contain my excitement, after all WDW is my favorite topic of conversation.

Your FIRST trip? I'm so envious. I was 30 on my first visit and it truly surpassed my overly-inflated expectations. That was four years ago and my wife and I just made our sixth trip this past May. Have a great time!

I use the "different strokes for different folks" line. Maybe it is a Canadian thing (especially the east coast), but I just politely tell them that it is an addiction that some of us get and some of us don't. Not unlike those that like to camp, fish, or beach vacation. It carries more sentiment and emotion for me than other vacation choices, and since we live so far and can only go every 2nd or 3rd year (not often by some standards), I have great memories of time spent alone in a fantasy world with my family, just having fun.
I am also the local Disney vacation expert, so sometimes these comments and responses get people second guessing their opinions.
When you speak from the heart, it is hard to criticize an honest opinion.

What I find interesting is when I spoke with MIL about her recent trip (she was at the Contemporary for a conference) she had an extra day so she went to Epcot. She proclaimed it a "waste of space". Even though she LOVES gardening and went during Flower and Garden Festival (she didn't know about the workshops). She loves shopping, wine and culture cuisine, didn't even go into the countries, just walked on by.

So, I wonder how much of this is people thinking they've "seen enough" when in all reality they missed SO MUCH it boggles the mind. I just let her believe it to be a waste of space, because I reasoned it wasn't worth pulling back the curtain to show her all of the things she missed (I would've been there longer than I wanted to be), but my DH looked at me when we got in the car and just shook his head and laughed thinking of all the money spending opportunities his mother missed.

I get this from a friend all the time. This same friend goes to the same ski resort most weekends during winter. I tell her, "don't you get tired going down the same hill over and over?"

I get this a lot...every time I'm planning a trip.....I used to explain, but I've given up....those that ask just don't get it...they don't have the Disney gene...

My usual responses are:

Yup
It's my happy place...I can go there and feel like a kid again
Because I LOVE Disney and I can't get enough

I used to get this alot - now after 15 years of trips I think most people know where I'm going on vacation. I don't usually give a reason why - it's none of their business.

I did have one not so liked coworker who asked, "How can you possibly find enough things to do at Disney every year?" and I honestly couldn't resist answering her. Keep in mind that she not only travels to the Jersey shore EVERY weekend but also owns a house down there and spends her longer vacations there as well. And so when asked I said, "I'd rather go there than waste my money at the shore."

'Nuff said - she never asked again.

I'm 32 and only took my first trip to the world last year I always had a deep desire to go but....well to be honest finances wouldn't allow it. After that trip though I know that I am now a certified Disney freak and I can't wait to go back

Even after only 1 trip I get asked this question and my response....."There are people who have been 10-20 times and still haven't seen and done everything so how I am supposed to have done it in just 1 trip?"

Anyway I am trying to see how I can make another trip back home....maybe not this year or even next year but it will happen. That much I know

For me it's easy: because we can't vacation anywhere where Justin is so well taken care of. My 14 year old has Down syndrome and ASD. He's low functioning, only eats soft and pureed food and gets pushed around in his stroller/wheelchair (he can walk but he takes FOREVER!).

Justin rides almost everything, he loves the characters, the table restaurants puree his food (eats better there than at home - LOL!) and we get to spend quality time as family doing things together for 10 days (I also have an 11 year old son).

Since we go every year, we know what we don't want to do, the hotels are cheap, we eat until we almost burst and we can really relax and enjoy ourselves. As long as my 11 year doesn't get tired of it we'll continue to go - no matter the cost - since it definitely enriches our lives and Justin's

I also tell people that if they want to take Justin on their trip to Disney, they may not have to wait in long lines..........LOL!

I also call it my happy place. I recently got married their and had 19 people in our group. some first timers, some that had been before and some veterans like me and my kids. It was a wonderful time and one group of the first timers really understood the magic in it. Other first timers would rather sit in the room and watch tv. To each his own I feel. I can;t wait for my next trip and I always feel sad when i leave the park for the last time during the current trip. I have been out west and east and south and will see alaska this year and insist my kids she things other then disney but for me it is a place to relax and enjoy and undo the stress of work. I never get tired of going and never will. I will be their 4 times this year and look forward to eat trip

If the only place I ever went was Disney I would understand the question. I would never want to go to the same place every time I went on vacation and not see anywhere else. This is true of Disney, Myrtle Beach, The Poconos, or any other destination that people tend to visit over and over again.

It is a great big world and an even bigger country and I want to see as much of it as I can. I do get to other places/cities 4 or 5 times a year (as you can tell once I get my signature back) but I still never really get tired of Disney.

I do usually make Disney trips around events either at Disney or other places in FL so my answer is easy:

"Well, I'm going down for <whatever> anyway so why not add a day or two at the parks while I'm there".
