I woke up this morning and checked the flight prices to MCO and saw they were only $156 from Detroit in August. Then I call Disney to see we can get great rates at the hotel too.

So talk it over with DW and we book 5 days.

The kids (ages 8 and 5) have no idea. I don't want to tell them until that morning. Any ideas on how best to tell them that morning?

Should we tell them as we wake them up?

Wait until the airport?

Just wanted some input.

Thanks.

There are many great threads on suprise trips floating around-- I would try doing a search for some of them.

I could never keep the suprise!

I don't think I coould stand it to keep the surprise - But, Boy - what a surprise!!! They are gonna be sooooo excited!!! I think it would be neat if you could make the ride to the airport a "guessing" game as to where they were going!!! That would just add to the fun. Of course, they could probably guess rather quickly when you arrive at the airport and start checking in!

Keep us posted as to what you decide!! I am excited for them!!!!

Good Luck!!!!

I wish my mom would surprise me with a trip to WDW, and I'm in my 40's. :-)

When I went in October, A family I talked to had just told there kids at airport. They had told them before hand they were visiting out of state relatives. So kids knew a vacation just not where. Once at airport their mother pulled out T-shirts from her backpack with Disney on it. One for each of their 3 kids. I thought that was pretty cool. If I ever have kids that is something I would have to do. Lady told me the best part was not hearing the kids talk about it for 2 months, they had no idea. But she did tell me it was hard for her not to talk about it at all she was excited about going, could only talk to her husband when kids were not around.

Added note, they told them outside when they were unloading luggage so they did not create a ruckus inside.

Here's a really cool thing my co-worker did for her granddaughter (age 7). They told GD that GM was coming for the day to go to the local aquarium (GM lives about 2 hrs away). They woke GD up at 7 and said "Guess where we're going today?" she said "you promised we'd go to the aquarium!" "well we can't go to the aq. because then we'd miss the plane going to DISNEY WORLD!!" Talk about shock! They told her she had 15 mins. to get ready. Her mother had been secretly packing bags all week and hiding them in a spare room.

I had been teasing co-worker GM the week before, that there would be no way they could pull it off. She's a really smart, inquisitive, hard to fool kid. But they did it.

I had an idea similar to what mel&me posted. How about buying some Mickey Ears ahead of time and when you are ready to break the news just whip the hats out of your bag!

We're surprising our kids for the 1st time this year (6, 5 and 4). We're staying at HRH first (they know about this) so on the morning we're going to DIsney we plan to wake them up and tell them TInkerbelle left a surprise (it's dd's 7th birthday) for them. I plan to write a little poem and give them a decorated bag filled with clues (Disney t-shirt, autograph book and pen, and GOH badges). The poem will also tell them to leave out the bag each night and if they're good Tinkerbelle will leave them a surprise. DH will have the camera ready and I'm hoping the look of surprise on their faces will be priceless.
