How can my friend get her Jack Russell to stop biting?

He is 3 years old, very sweet little boy. Does not like little kids. She has two kids, he is great with them. He has nipped and surface nipped at other kids and my son once. He gives clear signs by growling, do not pick me up, but you know how kids are. He bit the neighbor next door, don't know how severe. She emailed me that they have to find him a home, they are heartsick. Any suggestions to break him of this habit, I'm hoping they can keep him if they can get this under control. He loves me, whenever I come in the house he jumps right up on my lap and lays his head on my shoulder. I have seen him growl at my 8 year old and 9 year old though. I would take him except he hates my yellow lab. It's actually pretty comical, when they drive up he hangs out the window growling and snarling like the most ferocious animal in the world while my lab just stands there wagging his tail. Any ideas anyone???

JR are notorius biters. I was talking to a trainer just last week that was saying so many of them are put up for adoption or placed into rescue homes because of this problem.
She said this dog is popular because of Frazier. But once people realize they bite so much, well.....
I would suggest contacting a good local dog trainer for advice.

How to help you! We have 2 jr's! (One hyper puppy was not enough for my dh) !! Anwyay, one doesn't like any other dog to be near her and the other would play with ANYTHING/ANYBODY! They are not related, so I am not sure what the big difference. We got them both at around the same age and basically did same training as the other. One is 2 and the other turned 1 in May. Good luck! Let us know if you come up with great plan that works! I would hate to see them have to get rid of the dog. They are very hyper, but so intelligent! Both of ours are very loving. I couldn't imagine having to part with one!
