I have rented points from a DVC member, is there a way to call and make sure that my ressie is indeed made. Yes, I received my confirmation, so I know that it is made at the current time, and I am not trying to say that the dvc member is going to do anything out of the way, but how do I check, say 6 months from now when I pay the rest of my money, that my ressie is still intact. Does anyone know? Thanks, Dena

From reading the DVC site- you can't until 2-3 days before the trip and then you can call the Villa directly

I don't think that YOU can! The DVC Owner owns the reservation until you check in. That is one of the elements of trust involved in renting points. I don't believe that Disney will talk to you at all.

Only thing you could do is ask for a three way call with the member and MS confirming the reservation. You cannot call about the reservation. But with that being said it is a limited satisfaction, because the next day it could be canceled by the member.

The previous posters are correct. The written confirmation given to you by the owner is the only confirmation you can get. Many people have even reported that the resorts are beginning to not confirm the reservation for renters a few days prior to arrival. This is why renting isn't for everybody, there is a risk that the owner will cancel. But, there have been very few reported problems of this happening :) Something like 2 or 3 total.

And as another poster said, the owner could still cancel immediately afterwords, even if you could call and confirm.

If you have found someone to rent from that seems trustworthy, is willing to give you their personal contact information, you have followed up on that contact information, and (most importantly) you have made your payments ON TIME and in accordance with your agreement with the owner, there should be nothing to worry about. The only reason I can see for a trustworthy person to cancel a reservation would be for non-payment or fear of losing points. If that level of trust isn't there for you, then don't rent.

Thanks for the replies, I have rented before, but somehow, I got through and the resort confirmed my ressie, I do not anticipate any problems, but just to make me feel better. It's alot of money, and we are not the most wealty in the world, by no means. Thanks, Dena

If you are concerned about losing your money renting from a member, you really should make a reservation directly from Disney where you will have all sorts of confirmations and policies that will work better for you.
