How can I get on a list so telemarketers don't call me in Illinois

I saw Dateline or one of those shows and they mentioned that there was a 'no call' list in some states that would prohibit telemarketers from calling you, and Illinois is one of those states. I figured it would be worth a try but don't know who to call. Does anyone have information on this? Thanks.

Call the phone company that provides your local service. They should be able to tell you who to call.

There isn't a state list for Illinois yet anyway.

You can sign up for the Direct Marketing List, it is required by several states now and used by many telemarketing companies.

I am on a no call list for the State of Connecticut . . .I have been since the first time it was introduced . . .it did stop the telemarketers for awhile . . .those "unavailable" calls on the caller i.d. . . .but now . . .telemarketers have a new tactic . . .since they know you are on a no call list they'll tell you it was just random calling . . .I've been getting those alot lately . . .

For instance, I got one of those "unavailable" calls around 8:20 tonight and when I told the woman that I was on a no call list, she told me my number wasn't on any list she had and that they were doing "random" calling . . .I suppose we should now be on a no random calling list?

Wish Upon A Star - I don't think it matters if they are calling random numbers. Get their number & company next time and let them know you are filing a complaint.

There are a few exemptions, usually charities, companies you do business with etc but no cold calling at all.

I have "Privacy Manager". I love it. It screens calls like that. Unless they are willing to give their phone number (which 98% are not willing to do) th cal will not got through. Even if it does go through, I have the option of accepting the call or not. No more interrupted meals, no late calls. I love it. It is worth the 3.95 per month charge.

I have a phone butler on my phone. It's so neat! When there's a call I don't want I just press the star key and hang up. It has a guy's voice with an English accent. It basically says..."This is the phone butler. The person you have called is requesting that you place this number on your do not call list..." What a blast! I got it from QVC.
