How busy is Disneyland at Christmas?

We are travelling from Australia to the USA west coast for three weeks this Christmas, and were hoping to spend Christmas Day and the following few days at Disneyland. However we have now heard a few people say that Disneyland is extremely busy during Christmas week, and we should not go then.

Any advice? How busy is Disneyland at Christmas? How long in average would we have to wait in a queue? Would we be better to leave Disneyland until the end of our trip, around the 13th January? Would it be much quieter during this time?

It will definitely be less crowded at the end of your trip, rather than right after Christmas. If you have the wiggle room, I would opt for the later time frame. If you google, you will find crowd prediction calendars that can help you understand the crowd differences. Good luck!

We were there in 2013. First, I would ask on the Disneyland board below. Second, we went the week before Christmas week and it was still crazy busy. In fact, the CMs were talking about how busy it was and that they hadn't seen that before. DLR is known to actually shut during capacity at those times. It's not that you can't have fun, it's merely that you have to align your expectations to meet reality. If you plan on rope drop, use fast passes to their max, and don't go in thinking you'll see everything, you should be okay. If you wait until January, the crowds will be much better. Just be sure to check the calendar as you can tell when the decorations come down and what rides are going into refurb when.

The week between Christmas and new years is the bussiest time of the year. The park often closes to capacity during this time. I would wait until the later part of your trip to go. The only downside of waiting is shorter hours and you will encounter refurbs in January. However, I think it's worth the trade off for less people and less wait times.

Do not go on Christmas, unless you like pushing through unbelievable crowds and waiting hours for one ride. Wait until the end of your trip.
