How busy does SSR get just after Christmas?

I just realized that we might be able to squeeze in another vacation - the curse of the DVC owner, right? I think I'll commit to some airline tickets as soon as SW opens up the schedule next month. But I was hoping to wait just a bit on booking the room, since we have a Feb. UY and anything we borrow from next year's points would end up in holding if we had to cancel for some reason.

I'm wondering how long I could wait before having to make that reservation, plus I figured that SSR seems to have the largest room inventory. We're just looking for a studio -- I'm trying to keep the number of points used as low as possible, plus we wouldn't really need the full kitchen.

Does anyone have any idea how the resort has historically filled up as the holiday season approaches?

Thanks for your insights.

Not sure what you mean by "just after Christmas." Dec 26? or after Jan 1? SSR tends to be available when no others are but for Christmas week if you wait much beyond the 7 month window even it could be filled. If you mean starting Jan 2 (a Sunday) chances at SSR will be much, much higher.

I'm looking at arriving on Dec. 26 for that week. But I'm not quite ready to commit to the points.
Because we would have to borrow, and because of that darn Feb. UY, we would really need to know we're going to go. It's still a bit speculative due to jobs/family. If we have to cancel, using those points before the end of Feb. will be difficult.
But I know I'm okay on the airfare, since I'll have a year from now to use it, and that fits in the plans.
So I'm thinking that I'll book a hotel offsite as a back-up. But I'm wondering just how long I can leave the decision on whether to shuffle back to the party onsite? That's why I thought SSR, because it has a considerable inventory.
And the boat ride to DTD at New Year's has got to be kind of cool, too!
