I am about 5' and have 50 lbs to lose. How much should I lose before starting something like C25K?:confused3:

You can jog at any size. I started with 86 pounds to lose and I jog. As long as you are not pushing yourself to hard and over training you'll be fine. Many people run to lose weight.

I dont think there is an answer for that. If you've watched the Biggest Loser, they have 300 lb people running. I think as long as you start slow, and dont push too hard, any size can run. C25k is a pretty easy program from what I have heard. I did my own, just starting with 1 minute, then 2, and got up to 8 miles. Just dont push yourself too hard, and you should be fine.

I started in March and I easily have 60lbs to lose. I used the C25K in the beginning but switched to the Galloway method. Just don't overdo it and you should be fine !

I'm 5'3" and started with over 80 lbs to lose. I waited until last week, at around 26 pounds *lost* to start. And I'm starting slowly.

But I'm also 42, with a big family history of joints-that-go-bad, with a personal history of having fallen down stairs and landed on my knee, and I've sort of been wondering when I'll be hit by the perfect storm when my knees "die"...so I really did NOT want to run with ALL that weight on my knees. Now I feel the time is right. Enough weight off and enough energy!

Make sure as all have said to not over do. What is that, I often wonder, "over do"?

You definitely should check with your doctor to make sure you are able to safely exercise, whatever movement you do. Then I would recommend to start out with small amounts of going faster building up to what you set as your goal.

If you start C25K, you can repeat weeks until you feel you are ready to move forward. It all depends on how your body physically responds and small goals will help things along.

And, if you don't jog you can try walking as fast as you can. I wog (walk/jog) and I am slow. I get it done. Try it, you may find you will surprise yourself with what you can do.

PS: I started at 54 training for my first half. I am now 62 and still moving along.

Find the fun!

Thank you all for the great advice! I mostly walk, "wog" when I feel like moving faster and then stretch and ice when I am done. So far so good.

I started C25K two years ago in preparation for the Everest Challenge 2011, at 80 pounds overweight and standing 5'1". I just did the regular intervals for C25K. I was by no means fast, but I hadn't planned on winning, I just wanted to finish in the allotted time.
I just went slower than most people doing C25K. I ran at a 3.5-4 and walked at a 3 (during my training). I made sure I listened to my body, I didn't huff and puff while running, I could still carry on a conversation.

I also repeated weeks, Week 3 was rough for me and I know a lot of people say the same thing.

DS15 and I finished the race in roughly 42 minutes, I was beyond thrilled! The adrenaline made me move faster, and it was hard trying to focus on me and not the race everyone else was running but I had a blast and I'm looking forward to doing it again in 2014 with DS11.

I'm down 13 pounds and I'm training for the 1/2 in January.

You can do this!!!!
