I have been several reports fropm pepple coming back from SSr and commenting on how big SSR is. I am going to be there at the end of April and staying at SSR on DPs -first DVC stay actually. I am not a visual person so looking at a map wonlt help me however I did stay at POP last year and was in the farthest building from the main building, I did this walk every morning to get coffees and noticed it was a bit of a hike. now is SSr this size? or twice the size? I have requested the springs sections but I know it's only a request.

A horse would ride Chuck Norris to get from one side of SSR to another

:lmao:
really, someone here has a map with distances in a fraction of a mile from google earth..

All SSR rooms have a coffee maker. (uses standard 10-12 cup filters) Just make your own, then enjoy the time you just saved relaxing on your balcony! (Use your room, it is what makes DVC much better than a value trip!)
FWIW I think Grandstand is equally close to the main areas as springs..

Actually SSR is not so large, the other DVC resorts are tiny!:rotfl2:

You may be thinking of this.

I made this up a few years ago, when SSR first opened. Measured some distances using my GPS. It's not google earth but a photograph of one of the location signs at SSR. This was before the Grandstand area was added.

The different walks I made are color coded, and the distance is in fractional miles.

The yellow line goes all the way from the quiet pool in Congress Park to the entrance to DD which is off the map.

Hope this helps.

Just wondering if anyone has ever seen a map like this of some of WDW's other resorts?

Everyone says that SSR is so huge, but I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside a few years ago (back when it was Dixie Landings!) and my memory seems to say it was AT LEAST as big as SSR, if not bigger!

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks!
TJ

PS -- Thanks Caskbill! I really think the map gives people a bit of perspective on SSR distances. It's not as bad as some people think!

How cool! You wouldn't happen to have one of these for OKW would you? :)

This will be my first time staying there as well and I was wondering when you check in do they give you some type of map to know where everything is? Also, I have heard people say they take a golf cart transport to their room... Do you park at the front and then make a trek with all your things to your room or is there parking areas near each section and then trek from there? Thanks in advance.

there's plenty of parking near each building...

Yes. They give you a map, a small torch, a jug of water, a flint and a small bag of rice.

I was wondering how SSR compares to OKW in size? We thought OKW was HOOOGE when we stayed there and we are staying at SSR for the first time in May....didn't know if the total SF area was similar??:confused3

Anybody know that one????

Here's a link to WillCad's maps: http://www.willcad.org/disney_maps.shtml#dvc

Shows the whole SSR map, without mileage (and lots of other stuff). Someone does have one with the mileage to the new sections, but couldn't immediately find it (Robo, maybe?).

My first visit will be on an exchange, and I'm hoping (like everyone else) that we don't end up out in Carousel without even a pool (have seen a lot of conflicting reports about how to put in a request -- phone/fax, early/late, etc.)
Will have a car, so we'll be fine whatever.

Robo's got a map of his dog man. If google earth caught them standing in the yard and still long enough, he's probably got one of yours and mine too!

We got beans. We were so disappointed!!!

At least you didn't get breadcrumbs -- maybe some of the beans wouldn't get eaten by the birds, so you could find your way back!

(Glad to hear that about check-in -- I was wondering, the pics I've seen made it look like that is a problem -- guess it is. Nice to know in advice that it's limited).

Seriously, I swear there are 8 parking places at check-in and 2 are HC. :(

I gotta get out of this thread. This is too easy.

Seemed to me that there were about 20 parking spaces at the check in area. I have never been unable to find a spot.

Seems to me that the size of SSR has been greatly exaggerated...you will be fine.
