How big is Coronado Springs?

We are considering our second Christmas trip to Disney (we went last year for the first time and caught the bug). We went big for our first trip and are looking to scale back this year. Right now we're looking at Coronado Springs. The difference between a preferred and a garden view room is $600. I know it's a huge resort, but how reliable is the internal bus? My kids will be 10 and 8 so walking is not a huge issue as long as it's a reasonable distance.

It's huge-mongous. Pay the extra for the preferred room. You will be glad you did.

The internal bus is very reliable. That said, Coronado is big.

it's large enough to feel like your not even part of the resort when you get stuck in the ranchos. the good part about being there is it was very quiet and we were close to a bus stop.The bad part was the main building was far enough away we never went to it the whole week we were there except to catch DME.

HUGE! We got a little pixie dust when we stayed, arrived at 9pm, I was carrying a sleeping 1 year old and my DH was pushing the carriage with our carry-ons and a sleepy 7 yr old. They gave us the building right next to the Main Building and a 3 minute walk to the main pool! It was amazing. Best resort stay we have actually ever had.

There is a huge lake in the middle of the resort with all the buildings surrounding it. I believe to walk around the entire lake is close to a mile. So hopefully that puts it in perspective for you.

It is very large.

It is a BEAUTIFUL resort, but we have had nothing but issues there the two times we stayed. Man, I wish I had better experiences, as it really is a gorgeous resort!!

Good grief, I guess it depends on what you mean by huge. It is the third smallest moderate footprint. CBR is the largest, POR second largest, CSR third and then POFQ. Buses are great there but I have never used one to go to main hub. I always stay standard, love Ranchos and even our farthest room was no more than 5-7 minute walk and really depends on how often we stopped to take pictures of landscape or wildlife. And if you just want to fill your mug, you can also do that at main pool.

NOW if they close the walkway from Cabana to the main hub, they are cutting off an important walkway but no reports of that so far.

Agree with everything! Never used the internal bus and never felt the walk was too long or not enjoyable. Last visit we were in Ranchos - just lovely. It is really a beautiful resort and we have spent a good amount of time just walking around and taking it all in. Great photo ops!

I am elderly, in poor shape and have knee issues, so I walk with a cane on good days and a walker on not so good days. I can walk from the furthest areas to El Centro in about 10 minutes. It is not bad at all, IMO. I have had walks that seemed to take longer at the YC walking through the long, convoluted hallways there.

If you are young and healthy, it really shouldn't be a problem. We book standard often at CSR. Request Casitas 4 - it is very convenient to the first bus stop for pick up and drop off and not far from anything at the resort.

CSR is fairly large, but there are some locations that provide good access to everything. When we stayed there, we had a standard room in Cabanas 8B, and it was the perfect location. It was a short walk to El Centro, a short walk to the main pool, and there was a bus stop pretty much right there.

It is big, but not ginormous! I've stayed at CSR 4 times and have never paid for preferred. And I'm lazy, I pay for preferred at the value resorts! Ask to be put in Casitas 4, and that way you are close to the first bus stop picked up/dropped off, and not that far from the food court.

Completely agree with this, I would never refer to CSR as huge. We have stayed in Ranchos every single CSR stay (at least 4), and it never took us even 10 minutes to get to the main building. I actually sometimes even walked around through the different sections, just to get a feel of the different areas, and even that didn't feel too long. I have never taken the internal bus, as I find the resort just lovely to walk around.

It's not big enough that I have had issues walking (or taking the internal bus), anywhere. I love the resort, it has a great pool and a sit-down restaurant. I don't think I would worry about having a preferred room, for the extra $600.

CSR is under construction until 2018 (though it sounds like it is less disruptive than at CBR).

Agree with those above that we don't feel it is huge at all. We also stay standard in Cabanas 8A or 8B and find it a short, beautiful walk by the lake to El Centro (maybe not as much now with construction ) , close to pool and bus stop. Definitely have not needed internal bus.

We stayed as CSR for 9 nights June 2016 - we stayed at the very back of the resort in Ranchos building 7A. Taking an easy strolling pace, pausing to take pictures, the walk to the food court was 10 min. I timed it. We walked it sometimes and used the internal shuttle other times. Really had no issues with either option. I would just make sure if you jump on the MK bus to go to the front of the resort, make sure they are not full - if they are full, they won't stop at the front but go on to the park. The driver will tell you if you ask before hopping on. Also, we could see fireworks from Hollywood Studios right out side our door, just a 2 min walk to the bus stop and very close to both quiet pool and main/themed pool area. We loved it and would stay there again, even in Ranchos. Just depends on what is most important to you. My parents were with us, they are 70 & 71 - they preferred the bus when tired, but first thing in the morning had no problems walking to the front.

It should be noted that there's no "internal bus" at CSR. You can basically hop on a bus and take it to the stop you need. I believe this is still the order:
