How bad are the bugs?

Greetings!

We'll be heading down soon (days away from the Single Digit Dance - woo hoo!) and I was wondering what to expect in the bug department - and what to pack in the anti-bug department. Is the time for mosquitos past, or are they still an issue? Since we're staying at the Polynesian and planning some evening fireworks/ EWP viewing on the beach, should we bring the Off?

Thanks so much!

I am sure there will be others that say they were eaten alive at WDW but we haven't. We were in WDW at the Poly in May and last October and didn't see or feel one mosquito. We watched the fireworks from the beach both trips and no bugs! The only bugs I have ever come across is love bugs in September and lots of bees during the Flower Festival. I still bring some kind of bug spray though just to be safe. My luck I won't bring it and I'll be attacked by millions of mosquitos. I used to take a can of OFF but just found a small travel size squirty bottle of Off that is very small and can fit in your pocket if needed. I got it at Target and it is perfectly sized. I will be at the Poly in 24 days and can't wait! Have a nice trip!

Aloha! :sunny:

It is Florida & hot, soooo...there will be bugs. We've also seen lizards, garden snakes, birds, a family of ducks...

-BUT-

I've stayed at the Poly many times & never had a problem, even down on the beach in the evening. We always pack bug spray [like Raid] & never have used it. We haven't use Off either. If you're more comfortable w/the Off, definitely bring it...there are bugs.

The love bugs will probably be out, but not just at the Poly, they're everywhere. I'm not sure if the Off works w/them. The love bugs are more annoying than harmful, although I believe they will harm your car's finish. Last time we had the car detailed when we got home.

Don't worry about the bugs...Have a great time!

Aloha! :sunny:

We just returned on the 17th, stayed at the GF, quite buggy around the hotel and for fireworks watching at the dock, mainly mosquitos. I wish I would have brought insect repellant.

The only bugs I have encountered would be major swarms of those pesky Love Bugs... however, they seem to be on the out... so you might not really have to deal with them as I did...

We just got back 2 weeks ago and thought we were fine except for love bugs. Then one night we were sitting by the "lake" at CSR and got eaten alive by something - mainly on our lower legs. I don't think it was mosquitos b/c I usually see them buzzing and stuff but we still healing from all the bites. Bring the bug spray - better safe than sorry!

What the heck are Love Bugs? At first I just thought that was a cute phrase for couples indulging in Public Displays of Affection, but when y'all started talking about getting bitten, I realized (hoped?) that they really were insects and not people. ;)

They are these bugs that "connect" to each other... so it looks like two bugs stuck together.

Oh....LOL, and we thought it was mating season LOL. We saw lots of those outside around the Marriot, and some landed on me in DownTown Disney (even in the store!), but didn't see them around the Disney resorts. I didn't get any bites from them, that I know..we thought they were too "busy". Are they always connected?

The only time we had a problem with actual bites was when we were on the water going from place to place. A gal sitting next to us waiting for the MK fireworks said she was getting all bit up. A little bug spray would have been good.

They're ALLLLLL over Disney property... the windshield of my bus was disgusting during season. They're pretty harmless, they don't bite or anything. They're just really annoying, because they come out en masse. Walking to my car was always horrible, because I'd have to walk through a huge swarm. Blah.

We just got back Friday from the AKL. We saw love bugs from time to time, and in the evenings there were some mosquitos outside by the animal viewing areas. My dau and my friend had a few bites of some kind on their legs but they didn't feel anything bite them. All in all, not too bad.
