How awkward could this be?

Ok if we have table mates I just don't want to "force" them to talk to me. I just hope if would be a family like yours. (social, kind, and inviting) Thanks for the answer!
Awwww, you're too kind! I'm sure you'll be fine.

You will get to observe the mdr in full activity, something few guests get to enjoy. Have a nice relaxed dinner, enjoy the moment.

It's a big trust factor in my family.

You will have a great opportunity here!

Doing various things on your own (including eating at restaurants) is something you will soon (a few years) do on a regular basis. So in this one evening you can:

  • Practice eating alone in a very safe, friendly environment. (The waiters will be happy to help you if you have any questions.)
  • Experiment. Try different foods. See what YOU like.
  • Gain confidence. Being on your own isn't so hard, with practice.
  • Ask questions. Without family members there, this is a chance for you to ask things and listen closely to the responses.
  • Demonstrate responsibility. By showing your parents how you can adapt to new situations, and behave in a repectable manner, they will be comfortable giving your more responsibility and more opportunities to do more things on your own.
Lucky you! Have fun!

I don't think it would be awkward, honestly people would probably think your parent was in the bathroom or something.. If they think anything of it at all.

On one of our DCL cruises, there were two little girls at the table across from us who ate dinners parent-free for most of the cruise. They were very young, but very polite and sweet.

On our next Alaskan cruise I know my parents will want to go to Palo. Let me tell you, I am NOT missing Tritons at all. If my parents book Palo for Tritons night will it be awkward if I, a 15 year old, were the only one at the table. I have two brothers (12 and 4 at the time of sailing) but I know they won't come to eat with me. My mom might let me take the four year old but I know 12 year old won't want to join. Would this be awkard? Will I get a bunch of looks? Thanks!

Go ahead and eat by yourself. You don't need to care what others think. You aren't doing anything wrong.

I had a very hard time learning how to "dine in public alone"...like well in to my 20's, I just felt so weird that I could not do it. I finally overcame it, and I just wanted to say good for you for being willing to eat alone...weird looks or not. That is very awesome...and I say go for it!

Meeeeeee tooooo! Only I was more like.... 33-34. I ate by myself for the first time AND went to a movie by myself in the same night. It was weird at first (to me) but no so bad.

What seating do you have? If second seating, they can go to Palo early and then join you for dinner at the MDR.

They could join you for a while and then go to a 7:00 or 7:30 seating. Have the staff box up your dessert and take it back to your room to eat while watching a movie. ;)

Sounds like a plan!

I haven't read all the responses but I would think that as long as it wasn't the first night, if you were seated with others, that you would have built up a rapport and not having your parents there shouldn't matter. On our last cruise my DD and I were sat with another family and I think she would have been fine dining alone with them if need be.

On our most recent cruise, there was a little boy (about 8 or 9) who came to dinner one night while his parents had dinner at Palo. He was treated like royalty by his serving team and various other servers as well. :) I would bet you would also have the undivided attention of your serving team and have a wonderful time.

As a side note, that same night, I also ended up eating alone. My husband and son had a late lunch after their zipling excursion and my daughter ate some jerk chicken at lunch that did not agree with her so it was just me. I am going to be honest, at first I felt sort of strange as I NEVER am alone. But after a few minutes, I enjoyed it immensely.
