I'm getting a new digital camera for xmas. I have a wimpy 4 mp Canon point and shoot, but I'm looking to get a lot more creative with my photos. So, how artistic can you get with the Canon S3IS?

Also, does anyone know a fairly inexpensive camera like the Canon S3IS that might be a little... better? Thanks!! :goodvibes

I am not one to say what's better and not.. lots of people here seem to love the Canon, I just got the Sony H5, which is a 7.2 MP and 12x zoom. But, i think your best bet is to read up on the different cameras available and go play with them in the store.

Please give us a better idea of what you mean by artistic. Much of what people consider artistic comes more from your post processing software than the camera. If you are wanting a better range in the depth of field (i.e. sharp subject with out of focus background), then the S3 will likely give you a little better results because it has better glass than a basic P&S. Do not expect too much though. If you really want to control something like that, then consider a DSLR. It sounds like that may be out of your range though.

It is with out any doubts better than your current model. The IS and super zoom really increase what you are able to effectively shoot.
