How are the Animal Kingdom Lodge villas?

Would love to hear from anyone who has stayed there so far............the good and the bad. Have been to see the preview centre at Saratoga and they look lovely.......how much disturbance did the building work cause? Would I be likely to get in for early Dec at the 7 month mark?

The rooms at Jambo are smaller then the preview rooms. Are you looking at 2007 or 2008?

Oh, I hadn't realised that the rooms in the main building would be different in size from the new buildings! Are they a lot smaller?!!
We are looking at going in December 2008...........when do the new buildings open?

This is true with the exception of the GVs. Here is the quote from the official website.

2,349 sq. ft. in Jambo House
2,201 sq. ft. in Kidani Village

Thanks! I have stayed at the AKL several times and did the "tour" of the villas! What I would love to see is a trip report from someone who stayed in an AKL villa and took some pictures. I will do a search to see if I can find such a thing! I love that resort and am on the waiting list for a villa there in Janaury.

No, they are not only in Kidani. We have a 2 bedroom concierge booked for May 2008.

Only Kidani will have dedicated 2BRs. Both buildings have 2BR lockoffs.

Nobody has an official date yet, no.

The current literature says opening in "Spring of 2009". Estimated completion is by the END of '09.

All that being said, the conversion at Jambo (the existing building) was originally slated for completion in May of '08. The new date on the dvcmembers website is late January of '08 (28th, or something like that). What effect that has on Kidani's timetable is unknown.

The 5th and 6th floors of the existing Lodge building are being converted from hotel rooms to DVC villas. "Jambo House" is the name being used for the existing Lodge building. The new building will be called Kidani Village.

The villas that are open now are in the Zebra trail, near the lobby. The rest of the Zebra trail opens in September. On Dec 1st, they will open the villas along the Giraffe and Ostrich trails as well as the villas around the lobby on the 5th and 6th floors. The Kudu trail villas are scheduled to be open by the end of January 2008.

Would also love to hear about people's experiences on the conceirge level. Is there any chance of getting conceirge at the 7 mnth stage? What is the sunrise safari like? And the offerings in the lounge?
