How are people wearing their veils? Over the face or behind the head?

I'm doing mine over the face...I can't decide if I'm having my dad lift it before he hands me off or if I'm going to wear it over my face for the whole ceremony. We are having a very traditional, black tie affair...but I can't decide if it would be antiquated to wear the veil for the whole ceremony!

Has anyone done this? What is everyone else doing?

oh the things we brides obsess about!!! :rotfl:

Not wearing one (GASP!) you can't see the back of my dress if I wear one. I am to short they just look weird on me!

I am wearing a veil and i hadn't even thought of this, so thanks! One more thing to add to my list! LOL! Any help would be appreciated :thumbsup2

Back in the dark ages when I got married (1988), I wore a veil over my face and my husband raised it for Kiss the Bride. Trouble was, he's slightly shorter than me. Between my heels and big 80's hair, he had trouble getting it folded over behind me.

Personally, I think brides with veils on the back of their heads are lovely. You get to see their face coming down the aisle and during the ceremony.

I had it over my face, but since we didn't practice with it, I had my dad lift it after he walked me down the aisle...

I walked with mine behind my head. I really didn't want anything touching my face. I know that is weird, but it would have felt suffocating to me.

I wore mine in the back. I had an outdoor wedding and having something on my face would have killed me plus it was super windy at the Pointe and the veil would have been blown into my face.

I'm wearing mine at the back. I just prefer the look of it. :)

I've been to a lot of weddings. I haven't been to any where the bride wears the veil over her face for any part of the ceremony. When my mom got married, in 1969, she wore the veil over her face down the aisle, then her dad lifted it back before the ceremony to give her a kiss on the cheek and give his approval for her marriage to my dad.

I wore my mom's veil for my wedding, but I wore it back. I took it off before the reception.

I wore a fingertip length veil behind me head. I am not a big fan of blushers (is that what they're called?) so it was not something I even considered doing.

I am wearing my veil behid my head. I've always had a problem with things "picking" at my skin. Since I was little I wouldn't wear a sweater with out a turtulneck under it.
I lvoe the look of having it over the face but it isn't for me. I also havea a problem with perfection and have seen too many sloppy veil pulls in my life.
I watch the wedding showes and am like "Pull it down ALL the way!"
My fiance laughs at me when I yell at the tv!

So to avoid discomfort and "sloppy" (not the correct word) I'm wearing it behind my head (fyi I have 2 veils.......cathedral and fingertip)

Yeah, I think I am going to wear it down the aisle and then let Dad lift it off my face...or mom...*sigh* my parents are divorced, my mom doesn't think my dad has earned the right to walk me down the aisle...let alone life the veil...hrmmm...but mom is shorter than me so maybe she'll concede on the basis of practicality!!! :rotfl:

thanks for all the opinions and advice...I can always come to the Dis to have my questions answered!!! princess: :wizard:

I want to have my DF lift it right at the end of the ceremony--I'm very old fashioned about lil stuff like that...the only thing that worries me is that my guests will just think it's a lil silly since not many people do that anymore.

i wore an elbow length veil on my wedding day, it was so beautiful. i wore it on the crown of my head & i didnt cover my face.

I like the idea of a blusher, but we are having our wedding outside at SBP and I don' want it blowing against my face -- (I'm sure it will be windy and blowing enough as it is). So, I will have both my veils behind or well kind of on top of my head. I too am having a cathedral and a fingertip veil -- I love the way the two look together -- very pretty!!

I have an elbow length veil b/c I didn't want a long one b/c the back of my dress is so pretty. I don't like stuff like that all in my face, so I am wearing mine in the back. my sister is getting married in a month and she is wearing hers in front of her face. and to think we came from the same parents and are so different lol! :rotfl2:

I'm wearing mine in the back. I can't stand having things in my face. It feels like I would suffocate with the veil over my face but that is just my opinion and I'm very clostorphobic too.
