How are DL and CA in August?

Hi! This is my first time on any DL boards, I check out WDW boards almost every day. Anyway, a short trip was mentioned as a POSSIBILITY for August and I really wonder what the weather and crowds tend to be like. Would be some adults as well as DD6, DS10, and DS13. Let me add that the kids and I are all VERY fair skinned and burn easily (basically just hate the sun). I have a feeling this time of year is not real good for us but due to school, sports, etc.... time is limited. I know the humidity in CA is very different from PA.

Thanks for any advise,

The crowds in August can be heavy, especially during the weekends, but not undoable.
The weather is usually warm/hot, and humidity should not be a problem.

Remember your sunscreen

We have been at DLR in August the last two years. If you stick with weekdays it is very manageable. We have a blast. Some people are against summer visits to DLR, but others like me prefer summer. Summer weather at DLR is much more tolerable than WDW. If you use good strategies you can have a great experience.

HOT MUGGY and SMOGGY. I guess if I lived closer to DL I would go during the summer midweek, but since I don't I avoid DL pretty much Memorial Day -Labor Day Late May - Early Sept.

I've had very enjoyable visits in August; several over the years. As HydroGuy said, the summer weather at DL is much more tolerable than WDW. The average temps are a bit lower (although it can break 100 occassionally), humidity is not a major factor, and the natural air conditioning makes mornings and evenings very pleasant. Like you, I am very fair skinned, but rarely get sun burned at DL -- I wear sunscreen, and manage to avoid long lines, especially those in the sun. I also take breaks in the afternoon when the temps are highest. The hours are long most of August, so there are many hours when the park is open and the temps are comfortable.

PS -- When I was a teenager, I visited PA and fainted from the heat; I've had problems in FL and Arkansas also; never in California!

August is busy, just be prepared for the crowds and take your time. Plan on getting to the parks early, heading back to the hotel during the heat of the day to nap and swim, and then going back to the parks at dinner time to enjoy the very pleasantly warm evening. Make lots of dining reservations and have fun. Its Disneyland after all. And, CA can hardly be termed muggy unless you are from the desert (which I am and it still isn't bad).

We will be there the last week of August, and over Labor Day weekend. I am hoping that the crowds will thin out just a bit, due to many schools going back into session! I have no doubt that Labor Day weekend will be a zoo!
Not worried about the weather, though. Bring on the sunshine and heat! :cool1:

definitely go during the week. we avoid the park during the summer b/c of the crowds (but we are local and can do that). It'll be hot but nothing like back east or WDW...we're going to WDW in August...:scared1: LOL

I went to college in Philly, and those first few weeks of the semester were brutal...made me long for good ole CA weather...

you'll be fine! have fun!

I'm also going again in Aug. and the best things I've learned from here are: get there early, do non-fastpass rides first. take breaks either at your room or in nice air conditioned theaters when it gets really warm, try to stay relaxed, people get annoyed easier when you mix heat & crowds :rolleyes1 We were there on the 4th of July last year talk about massive crowds and irritated people :hippie:

I have to agree with Trey. We absolutely love August. We never go on the weekend and the weather is warm but perfect. All the rides have been up and running smoothly(except POTC last year, they had a few bugs still to work out) and the crowds are very managable using "Hydroguys" planning ideas.

Have a great time.
