How about a series of "Hot To Shoot" threads

We get repeated questions about how to shoot certain things like fireworks, Fantasmic!, Spectromagic, shows, rides, etc. One problem is that how you can shoot each of these and what you can realistically expect to get varies with different camera types.

I was thinking about starting a series (maybe one a week) of threads, each of which would focus on how to shoot a particular attraction/show/ride/etc. The idea would be for people with different types of equipment to post a few shots and an explanation of how they shot the attraction.

Interested in participating? Think that we'll get enough variety to make it useful? Any suggestions? Here are some of the specific subjects I think I'd like to tackle:

1) Fireworks
2) Spectromagic
3) Safari Ride
4) Fantasmic!
5) The Wienies (Castle, Ball, Tree, Hat)
6) Festival of the Lion King
7) Fast rides
8) Dark rides
9) Daytime parades
10) Lights at night

Good Idea, then then perhaps Jeff could make a closed sticky with links to those threads as well.

I'll help in whatever small way I can as well.

That would be so helpful of you guys. As I mentioned on another thread I am trying to progress out of full auto mode and any help I could get would be great and this type of info would be perfect.

You guys are so knowledgeable and take such great shots the help you provide to the rest of us is truly appreciated.

This is a great idea. I might be able to contribute some, but they would be photos of "What went wrong". If they work out OK, maybe they could get posted as stickies.

Yes, please!!! :thumbsup2 What a great idea Mark. I look forward to getting the low-down on some of these from all the experts!

Great idea; happy to participate. What about a thread explaining some "simple" photo/digital terms for newbies so they know know what we mean when we say things like Av priority, etc.? Happy to work on that one if no one else wants to do it. Would also be happy to work on a general photoshop thread that would explain things like levels and curves and give some general guidance on how to make photos pop.

THIS I would love! :woohoo:

Sounds like a great idea! I think the suggestion of turning these into stickies is a good one, too. It'd be nice to have a handy reference guide at the top of the board page.

Great idea, Mark! Although I wish you'd thought of it sooner.....we leave for WDW this weekend, my first trip with my Canon S3, and I would have loved to learn the "how-to's" before we left. But who knows? Maybe I'll get some good shots and I can tell others how to do it!:rotfl2:

Mark,

GREAT idea. I'll be happy to help. In fact, I have loads of "Now, here is the way you DON'T shoot this" examples to post but, sadly (for me) not too many examples of correct technique.
