I am appealing to the clever crew on the budget board for the following conundrum:
Friends of ours recently bought a new house - not their first house - and are not having a "housewarming party", but nonetheless have invited us over for super bowl, which will be the first time we will see it.
What budget-minded suggestions might you folks have about what i should bring as a "congratulations on your new home" gift?? (That i can have ready by Sunday):rolleyes1

What about a nice bottle of wine?
definitely on the short-list if I can''t come up with something creative.

On pinterest, I saw a "bucket" filled with items one might need for a household like nails and "goo gone" - so i thought maybe something along those lines? but, since this isn't their first house, it would have to be really clever...

I like the idea of the Wonderful life thing, Bread so your house may never know hunger, Salt that life may always have flavor, and And wine, that joy and prosperity may reign forever. Another thing we liked when we moved in we received a tee shirt with the name of our new town, and DH still wears it.

The first thing that comes to mind is the scene from Its a Wonderful Life - the Baileys are welcoming the Martinis into their new home:

Mary to Mrs. Martini: "Bread that this house may never know hunger."
Mary to Mrs. Martini: "Salt that life may always have flavor."
George to the Martinis: "And wine, that joy and prosperity may reign forever."

Get some nice fresh made breads, some gourmet salts, a bottle of wine and put it into a basket. Include the movie DVD if you're feeling up to it or just the quote from the movie on a tag hanging from the basket.

Or you could bring a treat to the party on a dish or tray that you intend to leave as a gift. I've done that before.

Lol! Great minds! :)

If you have a label-making program, how about some cute return address labels for their new home?

Some pretty pots, seeds and gardening spade for their new garden.

New tags for their pets with the new address on them.

I was thinking of those eco boxes for plants? Or maybe a "bouquet" of gift cards - home depot/lowes, container store, ikea, etc. - ??? How could I present it?

Marionette - love the address label idea - wish i had more time :worried:

What about a gift card to a store or restaurant in their new neighborhood? You also can't go wrong with new kitchen towels or bath towels. I also like to give 3-4 of the nice Bath and Body Works hand soaps.
