Housekeeping Question

We've never noticed a problem at any of the resorts. I even left an ipad in a room (we had switched to a different building at same resort) at an offsite place over Memorial Day weekend, and it was waiting in the office. Someday, my luck will run out, but I've always been lucky at WDW resorts.

No, but we did have an issue with housekeeping (BWV) leaving our GF back slide door open on 3 occasions:mad: Anyone could have came in and out and we would have been SOL:mad::mad::mad:

All the years of staying at Disney resorts, we have never had a problem. I don't usually take much valuables on the trip with me except for my phone, money and hair straightener (yes that is a valuable lol) I bring all cash with me and bring a little at a time each day, and leave the rest in the safe. I hope to read little to no stories of theft happening from the resort mousekeeping.

About 7 years ago i had a laptop almost stolen at the poly. Had to bring it for business. I had a security cable that attached it to the bed and the laptop under the bed. Cable was almost cut all the way through. The poly staff response was like "oh well".

Nope. Last year my DH even left our safe open w/ all our spare cash in it an we totally forgot about it came back found the safe open w/ all the money still in it. He then remembered he had left it open for me to take out gift cards that I didnt need that day so I had not gone into the safe.

Not housekeeping, but one of their repair people. I posted it at the time, when it happened. We had connecting rooms with our family and had trouble with it. Called housekeeping to get it fixed and they came as we were going out to swim. My grandson put his MP3 player, wallet and cd's in the safe..but never shut the door. When we came back from swimming, they were gone.
My husband and I have made a lot of trips to Disney and pointed that out when filling out the forms. At Disney, we were told, nothing they could do, to claim it under out homeowners. We also filled out a police report. The day after we got home I called Walmart to give them the numbers off a receipt I had for a gift card I had given my grandson for his birthday and had been in his wallet. They found that half the card had been used (stupid theft, should have used it all) and canceled the rest for us. They said they also had it on their camera, but the police would have to request it. They wouldn't. They did give us something to give Disney to show it had been used there.

However, I called Disney and told them the card had been used in Orlando and we lived in NY. At that time they said they ran whatever it is on our door to show who had been there and someone from Disney (they wouldn't pin point who, to us) had been in the room after the door had been reported as fixed, while we were at the pool He said based on how many trips we had been there, and never put in a claim, if we sent him a list of what was in the opened safe, and the value, they would cut us a check, and they did.

When I posted about it at that time several people had had problems wiht theft. Almost all, when discussing it here, had the same housekeeper at POR. Then she was transfered to POP, and people reported problems there (we gor robbed at POP), again with the same housekeeper.

This was several years ago, and we've been back a few times and never had another problem.

My family and I have been to Disney probably over 30 times in the past 15 years or so. Our last visit shows how the safes that they provide in the rooms are probably not very safe. We were staying at Animal Kingdom Villas, Kidani, room 7562, which is on the top floor, almost the last room down the hallway. I put my valuables--my wallet, the laptop, etc into the safe, shut the door, put in a combination, then gave the door a tug to be sure it was closed, and the safe opened right back up. At that point, we were in a dilemma. Obviously, at some time, somebody had messed with the locking mechanism of that particular safe to the point that the door no longer closed properly, and it needed to be repaired. But, we decided that we didn't want to report it broken, because we didn't want to have to stay in the room waiting for somebody to come repair the safe, and we didn't want somebody in the room repairing the safe when we weren't there, didn't want to draw attention the the fact that the safe in our room wasn't working, and we didn't really want to change rooms (we were getting ready to leave to go somewhere). So we used the safe anyway, reported it broken when we left. Nothing turned up missing.

But, several years ago, when my son was 5 or so (he's 14 now), we had an experience with losing a semi-valuable item and not having it returned. My son had one of the small, square game boys that were popular at the time. We were staying at Grand Floridian, and had dinner at Boma. I last remember seeing the game while we were outside looking at animals before dinner. We had gone to Florida for a conference I was attending, and we were checking out the next morning. My son called me while I was attending the conference and he and my husband were packing and checking out, to ask me where his game was. I didn't know, so, we retraced out steps. Nobody at either AKL or GF had turned in a game boy. We checked at every gift shop. My son didn't remember where he put it, but it sounded like he may have put it in the food safe in the room (where they have all kinds of snacks that you can buy at extremely high prices), which he didn't tell us until we checked out of the room. But, none was ever turned in at either resort. I called lost and found nearly every day for several months, but, according to lost and found, no game boys were ever turned in, which I find incredible, given how popular game boys were at the time. It would be equivalent to saying that nobody has lost an I-phone at Disney for 2 months now. I'm sure it happens every day. It was annoying to me, because I had a label with his name and phone number on the game, and it had a little kid game in it (like Blues Clues) and somebody saw fit not to return it to him.

Years ago when DD was 8ish, she had a favorite plush Mickey which she left in the bed and was scooped up by mousekeeping when they changed the bed. DH contacted lost and found and got a letter in response after a few weeks that started: Dear Mr. S, We are sorry that we have been unable to locate YOUR plush Mickey Mouse :lmao: DD (who is married with 3 kids) STILL talks about her missing Mickey (yeah, she holds grudges:goodvibes)

Last year I was sure that a diamond and silver necklace I had brought was missing. I looked everywhere for it. When I spoke with the desk at the Poly they were very nice and were going to send someone up to our room so I could report it. I finally found it on a little shelf in the bathroom. I felt terrible for even thinking someone had taken it. The desk staff almost seemed as if they knew I would find it, I don't think there is much of a problem with that at Disney.

Actually, there have been several cases where guests checking in have accidentally been issued keys to occupied rooms, and they entered rooms that clearly had someone else's belongings. So the patio door wouldn't be the only way someone could get in.

Between that, and maintenance, and housekeeping, and management, all having access to your room, it's important to secure your belongings. A co-worker of mine had some jewelry stolen at YC. She admitted it was her fault for leaving it out on the vanity instead of locking it up before she went to the pool, but it was gone when she got back to the room. But they never did find out who took it. I don't leave anything lying around - out of sight, out of mind for whoever might come in.

We've never experienced any kind of theft there.

We leave valuables in the safe, including laptop, credit cards, and extra cash.

Once, kind of. We checked out early from AKL one morning, and an hour later (we were still in the lobby after breakfast at Boma) we realized we had left a cell phone in the room. The front desk wouldn't let us back up there but called housekeeping, and they said there was no phone in the room.

What? We used it that morning before we left, so there wasn't anywhere else it could have been. :confused3

Tht same thing happened to us!!!! We hav been going twice a year since 2005 and had never had any problems. In 2007 we had checked out and went to DTD. About 2 hrs l8r, I realized I left my laptop under the bed. We went back to the resort and used our card to get into the room. The room was clean, so tht meant the housekeeper had already been there. I thought he had found it and turned it in, but tht was not the case. I filed a report and just so happened to hav taken out the insurance. But they said it was only valued at $300 although I know my ex's Mom paid more. Ah well :(

Contemporary. 2008. My son left a 20.00 bill on the nightstand when he forgot to grab it before we left the room.
It was gone when we returned for afternoon naps.

I have always put away and lock up everything. When the kids were little and had stuffed animals I even made sure those were put away before we left the room.

My husband used to leave out his laptop until the money went missing and then I finally convinced him he should put it away (it is his business laptop so it has all his business info on it!). I think when he travels solo he still leaves it out since I'm not there to nag him into putting it away.

No, never had anything stolen or missing from a room while we were occupying it. We have left things in the room after checking out that were then 'gone': a phone charger, a stuffed animal, a resort magnet.

Also, one time a pair of kids slippers were mailed to us at home that were not ours. Mailed them back.
