I'm taking an unexpected trip to Disneyland and I already have airline tickets out of Oakland Airport. My flight leaves at 1:20 p.m. What time would I need to leave Disneyland to be at the airport on time?

Have you tried changing to a more local airport like Burbank , Long Beach , SNA or even LAX ?

We live about 15 minutes from Oakland it takes us without any traffic issues 6-7 hours. I would NOT want to risk that drive.

We live about 15 mins from the Oakland airport and it takes us almost 5 1/2 hours WITHOUT stopping. If we stop at Harris Ranch like we usually do, add an hour.

We also leave the Bay Area in the mid afternoon to try to miss both the Eastbound traffic to 5 and then the LA rush hour traffic.

Depending on traffic it could take about 7-8 hours. I'd leave the day before and stay at a hotel near the airport or try to change the flight to an LA area airport!

Uhhhhh...wrong end of the state. Change your flight.

Not sure what airline you are on but a $150 change fee if applicable sounds like a great deal.

...or you could drive for 6-7 hours leaving at 3am...

I can get tickets on southwest from SNA to Oakland for $140 for the 2 of us. It gives us plenty of time to connect with our previously scheduled flight. Sounds like I should do that.

Yes, but for a $150 change fee each (there are 2 of us). Cheaper by half to go with Southwest and then just find the Alaska terminal once we are to Oakland. It appears there is a walkway connecting them.

What is your travel date from Disneyland to Oakland?

It's totally Oakland. I'm spending time in the Bay Area and had booked the flights before we planned the Disney trip......

Jet Blue has some nice fares from Long Beach (LGB) to Oakland (OAK) for the next few months.
See if this will fit your travel needs and the budget.

LGB is about 45 minutes from DLR, depending on traffic.

Agree with @tlovesdis , leave the night before. I just drove from Alhambra to Walnut Creek (which is a shorter distance than your drive) on July 4th and it took almost 9 hours due to a traffic accident at the Grapevine. Another time there was a fire there and it took 6 hours just to go 50 miles.

Traffic in both SoCal and the Bay Area can be really bad during the day, even when there are no accidents.

I would recommend leaving Anaheim around 8 PM the night before. Most of the rush hour traffic will have cleared out by then. It's my favorite time to make that drive. Otherwise, I would probably leave 3 am the day of your flight if it's a weekday. On a weekend you could leave a bit later.

Yes, do this.

It's about an hour on a plane. It's 6 plus traffic in a car. California is BIG.

This would be best and at a decent price, too.... you don't want to have to drive it! And, only 2 terminals at OAK, so it will be very easy to get from SW gate to Alaska Air gate.

The flight is the best option, but if you will have checked luggage, might be a problem.

What's the problem other than cost? There's always a small chance of delay, but OAK has excellent on time numbers. I get that it would have to be retrieved and checked in, but the OP said the schedule leaves plenty of time.

Here's the terminal map:

There's the walkway, which can be used to avoid going through security. While you're there, I'd recommend Fenton's Creamery.

I agree - don't drive unless you can do it the previous day. There's risk of being stuck in bad traffic.

For $20 more per ticket we can just bypass Oakland and catch our connecting flight in Seattle and stay on the same airline so I don't have to retrieve our luggage and then recheck it.

Check with Alaska. On some airlines if you miss part of the itinerary they cancel the future segments.

Here's the terminal map:
First of all, most airlines will only honor an interline baggage agreement if the tickets are on the same itinerary. Second, Southwest doesn't have interline agreements. So the OP will need to claim checked bags, recheck them and then go through security again. That is more time consuming than changing planes.

What help does Googling a terminal map do and then stealing the image to post it here? Do you think that the OP can't look up a map of the terminal?
