Hotels: Which should I choose?

I currently have two hotels booked for our trip. Both are across the street (Tropicana & Camelot Inn). My dilemma is this: There are 5 of us traveling. Tropicana is 2 queens, we'd also be getting a rollaway. Total cost for room/extra bed/parking comes out to around $800. Camelot is the King family suite, plenty of room and beds for all, but just the cost of the room is $1,340, so considerably more than the Tropicana. Is it worth the extra cost to keep the bigger room?

Over $500 difference is a dilemma. I think it depends on how much time you spend at the parks and hotel. If you're open to closers and just use the hotel to crash, smaller quarters might be ok. But if you like to relax in the mornings, take afternoon breaks, etc. the small room sounds tight and not very vacationy. How many nights also is important. 2 nights everyone can probably deal but more nights kinda cramped, that doesn't sound great.

Also, the persons sizes. If 3 are younger kids then again probably ok to have a smaller room. But if more than 2 or 3 are teens/adults, that may be too much for a small room.

We will be there 5 nights. Kids are 10, 18, 20(not really a kid I guess, lol). We do tend to go back for an afternoon break and plan to eat in the room as much as possible.

For 5 nights - that's a real vacation. Personally under your circumstances I wouldn't hesitate for the larger room. You'll have fun no matter where you stay - but the larger space sounds like more fun. :) Enjoy your trip!

If you spend time eating in the room, then that could be a reason to go with the larger suite. However, if you save $500 on the hotel, you could afford to eat more meals in the park if you were inclined giving you more Disney hours. Me, I'm a cheapskate and I see the savings in the hotel costs. But I can also see the lure of a suite. Definitely is a dilemma.

We are a family of 5 and I always get adjoining rooms or a suite for a DL trip. My kids don't do well sharing beds and then they keep me up all night:crazy2:. Whatever you decide, make sure you are using the 5 night or more special offered at both Trop & Camelot!

We stay at the Tropicana nearly every time we head down. The rooms aren't exactly spacious with two queens. I can't imagine adding a roll-away into one.

We just stayed at the Tropicana for the first time and I also would hesitate to try to sleep 5 in one room. I got our group 2 adjoining rooms, which I found to be pretty close to the same price as any of the suites we could locate. The extra bathroom is pretty vital for getting ready daily, and we did not mind a bit of privacy since we're used to it at home.

Have fun planning!

We are a family of five, and we used to stay at the Camelot quite often. When funds were tight we would get the two queen room and a roll away, but usually we tried to swing the family suite. It really was a tight fit for five people with two queens and a rollaway. Now we found a happy solution. We stay at the Best Western Park Place Inn and Mini Suites, and stay in the mini suite. It has two queens and a pull out sofa bed. It costs more than a two queen room, but less than a suite, at $161.00 a night. It's really just an extra long room, but it works out nicely for us.

I'm editing to add that the family suite at Camelot has a small dining table, which we loved, as we used to eat in the room quite a bit due to special diet needs. It was tough to eat in the 2 Q room with the rollaway...there was just no space!

I would go for the Camelot king suite. We stayed in one last year with our family of four (DH, myself, and two boys who were 16 and 19 at the time). We took the king room and each boy had a queen bed in the other room. They also had their own TV. We like to eat breakfast in the room and the fridge and microwave came in handy. There's also a table for four. The room only has one bathroom, but having the sink outside the bathroom is convenient. There is also a wet bar with a mirror over it in kitchen area that I used for getting ready in the morning. We really liked the size and layout of the room. Each of your three kids would have their own bed, one being a sofa sleeper in the king room. I would definitely recommend it.

To answer your question about whether it's worth it just for the bigger room, my opinion is no.
I say this because the hotel is not the destination. If it were the place you plan on spending lots of time then that would be different but since all your quality time is spent in the parks, I would choose to save the cash and spend it on better food, etc. - or just save it.

Our middle and youngest don't do well together either, which gives more appeal to the larger room. There were no more rooms available for the 5 night deal at the Camelot, I already called and asked :(
