Has anyone taken the time to figure out which hotel chains allow the discounts for state government employees that are traveling for vacation? A lot of hotels have discounts that are good for official travel only. But I've had some success finding some during our very limited travels that allow it even for vacation travel. I'm hoping that someone has already done the leg work for me.

When I worked for the Federal Government I would always request the Government Rate. I would clearly tell the person on the reservations line that although I was a government employee that I was not traveling on official business. I also did this for car rentals.

As long as you tell them you are not on official business it is up to their policy to allow you or not.

Note that the Disney owned and operated Resorts do not give any Government discounts, but I am quite sure the Swolpin and most of the Resorts on Hotel Plaza Blvd do.

I agree with the previous response but wanted to add that as to which hotels, your state should have a list of which hotels/chains they've contracted with.

Just know that the government rate is often higher than the lowest available rate.

Many years ago we got the govt. rate at the Swan. DH works for city govt. They required a paystub, and I believe we also brought a letter from personel on city letterhead.

I agree with pp. Govt. rates are not always the way to go.
