Hotels in Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano area? How are the beaches

Parents are going soon to this area? Any clean,safe hotels? How did the beaches hold up with recent storms?

I can't help with hotels since I am new to the area. However, I can say that the beaches have not survived the storms very well. There has been a lot of beach erosion in some areas. The news has shown some areas where at High Tide, the beach is not there...the water is all the way up to the retaining wall. I am not sure what areas are better than others at this point. Hopefully some others from the area might be able to help.
