Hotels across the street and safety questions

Good points and reminders overall, but just to clarify, Disneyland's approval qualifications of Good Neighbor properties are as follows: (1) Allow Disney to sell rooms on the Disney site, (2) Pay Disney big money for a designation without any rules/standards behind it. GN properties aren't nicer, closer, or endorsed by Disney for their quality or safety. Pretty misleading, huh?! But, this pointless designation brings a lot of people to the hotels that pay for the right to use the GN property title. Great marketing strategy for Disney and the GN properties!

I am sure if a hotel was known for crime issues, they would opt to not allow that hotel to sell rooms on their site, because it would not meet the "quality" standards they require. If someone books a hotel thru Disney and it is endorsed by Disney as a "good neighbor hotel," and crime is happening there, that gives Disney a bad name. The truth is, however, hotel crime in an area like Disney is not as common because there tend to be a lot more of a security presence compared to an average hotel.

Ive stayed twice at a Good Neighbour Hotel on Disney Way - Motel 6 Main Gate. This has outside corridors and is very near the highway. I have felt perfectly safe there as a solo female traveller. This year I requested a lower level room as I have a large suitcase. My room was at the back of the hotel but I did not have any safety fears.

In 2014 I stayed at a motel near Santa Monica which also had outside corridors. My only issue staying there was that the aircon didnt really work, but thats an issue you could have in a 5 star hotel.

I guess in general if you are not used to an urban area, are not used to seeing homeless people, are an anxious type person and are not very street wise, then you may be best going for the expensive onsite hotels.

Just curious :offtopic:...... Of all these hotels across the street .... Which is the cleanest?!

Who cleaned which room on what day? There is no absolute answer.
I guess my question was vague.... Some mentioned staying at multiple hotels in the area..... was there a particular hotel you found cleaner than another?

No. I've stayed in luxury hotels where someone missed something. I've had multiple stays in hotels and motels at all levels where the rooms were different on different stays. Once in Vegas it looked like housekeeping stopped midway through cleaning the bathroom. I called and someone cleaned it. That was an error by a person and it was corrected. It is not a cleanliness issue with that hotel.

We stayed at Castle Inn and Suites last year and it was the same anyone could easily walk up to the rooms but I never felt unsafe in the room.

That would be the Candy Cane Inn. The surface of the parking lot is cleaner than most hotels including the Disney ones.

Funny story. I know one person who sings the praises of CCI, and I kind of always thought too good to be true because she's just so over the top. After a few years I'm camped out on the Esplanade overnight for an event, and this family is telling me how they have such a clean, nice room there, but they're all sleeping on the Esplanade. And at first I'm thinking, hmm, confirmation of what I've always heard... But then I saw them using the comforters and blankets from the hotel lying out on the ground! After they rolled around on the ground for about 10 hours I really had to wonder if they warned the hotel, or if that comforter went right back in the bed. I also know a few people who will always take the comforter off the hotel bed first thing. Well, I'm now a convert.
