Hi everyone,
Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza in Downtown Disney? If yes, when was it and how was your experience? Thanks!!!

we stayed there in May 1996. The hotel was undergoing a major rehab at the time. The rooms were finished already. They were very spacious and pretty. The hotel had a very nice pool area(some of the rooms had patios outside that walked out directly to the pool), but, no kiddie pool if I remember correctly. There was supposed to be tennis courts, a new restaurant, and a night club, but, these were not finished at the time. we drove our own car, so I can't tell you how well the shuttle system worked, sorry. Overall, as long as everything else has been finished, this is a nice hotel. very convenient to downtown disney and the crossroads area of Lake Buena Vista.

We stayed there in April of 97 and they were still renovating then!

I was actually pretty impressed with the hotel. The room was very bright and cheery. We weren't in the tower, we faced the street but I was pretty darn comfortable. It was very relaxing in the pool area and we enjoyed the restaurant at breakfast.

I would recommend it if it was as good as it was during our stay. You can walk to DTD from there which is a nice plus.

Stayed there in 1994 and they were renovating...that sounds familiar. An ok place.......but its pretty cheap when we went. I think it was only 70 dollars a night

Thank you everyone - I am getting a really good rate for this one from AAA - 113.00 a night for a deluxe tower room - I think I will give it a try

Hey kwinkle,

Not sure when you're going so this may not help, but there is another current thread about the Hotel Royal Plaza and some are getting a better rate than $119 for the deluxe tower room. You may also want to check out the mousesavers website since this is one of the hotels Mary recommends--she lists the standard rates but mentions that the deluxe rooms can also be had at a discount. May be worth looking into. :D

We stayed there in August, 2002. The rooms were very nice. We upgraded to a tower room with the larger bath. Our room had two queen beds and a small sitting area with a loveseat that would convert to a bed. One adult or child could sleep there.

I booked the hotel largely due to the review and recommendations at Mousesavers.com. If you go to that website, be sure to sign up for her monthly newsletter. There are sometimes codes in the newsletter that offer an extra bonus and are not listed on the general site.

As I recall, we had a regular room for $79 a night which included 2 free adult breakfast buffets every morning. When we checked in they offered us an upgrade to the tower room for $20 extra, which we took. The desk clerk pulled up my reservation, which I booked over the internet and said "Wow, you got the employee rate!" Even she was impressed.

The bus service to the parks in the mornings was pretty dependable and timely. Coming home was a little more difficult. Sometimes, when we had a very long wait, we would just hop a Disney hotel bus, then transfer to a Downtown Disney bus and walk back to the hotel from the Marketplace. Of course, we were only two adults, that might be a little much with a big family or small children.
