What is the best decent hotel that is walking distance to the parks (off site)?

Courtyard Theme Park is IMO the nicest off site walkable Harbor St property IMO but prices usually rival the PPH which I would take any day vs being off site. Being a bit of a hotel diva yet value proximity I always book at the Fairfield Inn and it checks all the boxes for me when I just need a clean bed and shower.

Hojo is a fan favorite and Holiday Inn Express is decent, rest seem to be a crap shoot IMO though some have their favorites. As you go further out there there and nicer properties like the JW and Westin and even Springhill and Residence Inn but not worth the hike to me.

Interested to see how the Candy Cane Inn is once it reopens...some swear by it but I was disappointed with my few stays there.

So is Fairfield inn the closest of those besides courtyard? Is it safe to walk with a 5 year old?

The Disneyland website has a map of what they call Good Neighbor hotels. Once you've identified hotels in your price range, you can see where each is in relation to Disneyland's Harbor Blvd. entrance.

Note also that a few (like the Candy Cane Inn) have their own shuttles, although CCI is only a 10-minute walk straight down the same side of Harbor as DL. Hopefully they'll be open by July. 😁

There are closer properties than the FFI, but is always predictably mediocre as I like to say. Everything on Harbor corridor is totally safe IMO. You occasionally pass someone talking to a tree but have never felt "unsafe" at any hour.

FYI, GNH status is not any endorsement of standard of quality...only that they have a booking and ticket selling agreement with the DLR. There are quite a few Good Neighbor Hotels that many regulars would not touch and you can usually get better deals with more flexible cancelation polices by booking direct.

What kinda walk are we talking for FFI? Marriott-owned are usually my go to for cheaper hotels. So that sounds good to me!

Oh, can Good Neighbor hotels be booked through Disney Travel? I didn't know that. I just thought they were hotels that had arrangements to sell DLR tickets. (And whose customers got a Magic Morning Hour, which I presume is long gone.) They definitely vary in quality. I agree about booking directly with a hotel.

You can get past security in under 10 minutes if the lines aren't long. There's only a few options that are have a shorter walk and I personally wouldn't pick them over the Fairfield.

Be aware that this Fairfield does NOT have free breakfast unlike pretty much every other Fairfield in the US.

Lol thanks! I appreciate the heads up,
but it’s funny b/c we don’t ever make it down for the breakfast!

So are we talking about the FFI on S Harbor?

I just stayed six nights at the Westin Anaheim (3 of which were park days - and a couple of other days I walked to Downtown Disney). I would stay there again and again. It has several on-site restaurants, Marriot rates, and if you have any status with them, there's a lounge. It has a very nice workout room and a lovely pool.

It's a quick (and very pleasant) walk to the Downtown Disney entrance for rope drop (or later in the day it's easy to go through the Californian). I didn't time it, but according to my Fitbit, it took me 15 minutes when I left Downtown Disney via the Grand Californian to walk back.

How is the Hojo? Is it walkable too? I’m looking at it for the water park thing too. DS (5) would like that. I don’t need anything fancy. Just safe & clean. We are wdw vets & AP holders so trying something different!

Courtyard Theme Park Entrance is by far my preferred offsite hotel. Great water park, quiet corridors and rooms, excellent service, decent food offerings. 10 minute walk from hotel room to esplanade. We have never once felt unsafe even late at night.

Hojo is 2nd. Nice updated rooms, fun little pool area. Again about a 10 minute easy walk. You can’t go wrong with either choice.

Fairfield would be ok too, but it does have exterior entry rooms, and it’s just an older building, but the rooms are updated. Probably my 3rd choice.

The other closer motels, Best Western, Tropcicana etc. are fine as well, but they are in fact motels, and I would set expectations lower. However, they can’t be beat for location. Literally across the street. I’ve stayed here as well, but I’d rather spend a bit more for an updated, quieter room.

Great! Thank you! Think we settled on hojo just for price.

Quick question about courtyard tp Marriott. When I went to book, it offered a shuttle service (for a fee). Is that necessary? I thought it was pretty close walking distance?

That must be for airport shuttle service. Park is walkable and only property that has a dedicated Park shuttle outside the ART bus system was Candy Cane Inn from getting grandfathered in.

Hyatt Regency Garden Grove actually has a dedicated shuttle, but it is $6 a day. Majestic Garden also has a dedicated shuttle, but I have not used it.
