Hi, We are looking to go to Disneyland May 5-11, 2019. We haven't been to this park since 2013, but noticed that hotel prices are crazy compared to what we paid in 2013, and compared to Disney World. Are the prices so high because I'm booking further out or is that just the norm now? Looking at over $300 CDN a night for a double queen bed hotel :crazy2:. Star Wars opens summer of 2019 so is that part of it?

Don't want to sound like a whiner, just wondering if prices typically go down...thoughts?

Something within walking distance that's somewhat renovated. Hubby is 6'4" so queen beds are a minimum. There are 4 of us. It seems that as I click on the hotel websites, that the prices advertised end up a lot higherwhen I go to choose a room. I will look up Embassy suites though and see what I can find. Thanks!

Rates have seriously skyrocketed over about the last 18 months or so. I would book now, and keep looking for lower rates to come along.
Ok thanks! Thinking of going back to DW lol. Prices are better on the East coast

If you want walkable on Harbor, look at the early bird rate at Grand Legacy.

This far out is way too early to book a hotel. You will get lower prices if you wait. For instance, checking for next week there are a number of hotels right across from the park right around $150, including the Grand Legacy, and if you go a block away you can get closer to $125. That's US, not sure what Canadian would be.

Ok thanks! I usually book early as that's what I'm used to, but I will just follow the hotel websites and hopefully prices will drop a bit :).

In my previous post, I mentioned the early bird special at Grand Legacy. For May 5, 2019 prices start at $120 depending on room type. I regularly book my DL hotels 9-11 months out and then regularly check back to see if rates drop. In my experience, they rarely do. However I'm sure experiences vary depending on the hotel.

We're paying over $600 a night at the DLH next month. It's likely a one time only trip, but I would never do it again. The price is ridiculous. Looking at Disneyland Book from just 5 years ago, rates were around $300 per night during high season. WDW isn't as bad, but still pretty ridiculous. It's a big reason we started going to Universal. We're staying at the Hard Rock in December for 1/3 of the price of the Disneyland Hotel and the perks are far better.

I book super early - like a year out. Usually that gets me the best deal, but I keep checking for price drops right until the end. A lot of places do not release their dates that far in advance. The great thing is that most places have a great cancellation policy so if you find something better it is easy to cancel.

I would book something (now/soon) you are comfortable with, that has a good cancellation policy. I rarely (if ever) see price drops on 3rd party sites. The good promos I find directly on the hotel sites. 3rd party sites are good for the big chain properties like Best Western, Marriott etc.

Holy...I've never actually checked out the DLH as I figured it was out of our budget, but I was thinking it was more like $300-400, not $600...wow

Desert Inn and Suites is $124+ taxes and fees ($6/day for "resort fee" and $11/day if you have a car) for those dates: https://www.anaheimdesertinn.com/ This far out, you're probably best off going directly to the hotel sites to get the best rates.
Great, I will check this out...looks like I've missed a lot by not going based on a map, but more on the hotel deal sites.
We aren't sure about a car yet, but keeping options open :)

I will likely book early to make sure we get something we like, but will certainly keep checking!

Wow! We looked quickly as the rates were high then decided on other hotels :). We are also doing the Disney Mexican riviera cruise, so that will add a lot of cost already...

Ya I figured I'm doing this wrong lol. I'll keep checking :surfweb:
