We're going to DLP in October.

We booked the Hotel New York, but we have been contacted to be told we have been upgraded to the Disneyland hotel. Is it because they are overbooked. We're annoyed as they only told us once we had fully paid for the holiday and we really wanted to stay at the NY.

Anyone else had this problem?

I would suggest you contact DLP and explain the situation and politely refuse the offer, I'm sure they won't have a problem finding someone else willing to accept the upgrade. :)

Thats annoying when you wanted to stay there.

If it was me I would be

Perhaps they have booked a conference in and they need to shift some normal guests to make room for delegates.

I agree that they have probably have a conference booked.
I would also think you could refuse the upgrade if you don't want it. :confused3

We had the same problem the first time we went to DLP.

They called two days before departure to say that the hotel was overbooked and would we mind upgrading? As we would never be able to afford to stay at the Disneyland Hotel we jumped at the chance and didn't regret the decision one bit.

We were upgraded from the Cheyenne to the Newport bay - they didnt give us a reason either. We refused as the theming was important to our holiday.

We were upgraded from the Cheyenne to the Newport Bay Club last June. We knew this when we booked the previous November as this was for early booking.

I would never ever refuse an upgrade :)
But they didn't propose one to me yet :(

PS: no, it's not true, one upgrade I wouldn't like is from Santa Fe (where we always stay, yeah, we're cheapos, but it's the only way to include 4 Dsney vacations in 11 months) to Cheyenne. A friend of mine got such an upgrade, but it wouldn't work for us. My mom and I like to have each our bed, none of us likes to sleep in one of those bunk beds. But I don't think we would refuse it.

It's worked out ok. We are going in agroup of 12. But we all booked separately and 1 family are staying at Cheyenne. But the other family who were to be in NY with us, we mentioned this and they've been upgraded too. That was part of the reason why we didn't want to go. There is a conference booked as you can no longer book NY for the week we are going and as we had fully paid the holiday they offered us the upgrade. We're considering paying extra and going to castle club though as we loved the afternoon tea there and breakfast in there.
