Thinking of a short trip to DL possibly in October and wanted some input into my choice of hotel. At this stage I'm looking at Anaheim Desert Inn and Suites as it appears to be the closest. Normally distance doesn't concern me but this trip will be for myself and 13yo DD. As DH can't come with us this time I want something really close as we will be on our own returning to the hotel of an evening. Also I noticed that this hotel has an indoor swimming pool which may be nice especially after such a long flight. Any thoughts or other suggestions. We will most likely stay 3 nights as we are travelling on to Canada to visit family.

Sooo...my hubby and I just returned from 5 days at the park, and we stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites. My thoughts: The pool I would not use. I am not a swimmer, so that doesn't mean much, probably, but the whole "indoor pool" thing there at DI is kind of icky. The chlorine smell is SO strong, and the pool is right off the parking lot so it also smells like road fumes; it's really small, and it's always full of people. Then: They gave us a room right behind the stairwell. If you decide to stay at the Desert Inn, do NOT let them stick you behind any of the stairwells on any level of the hotel. I've never in my life had a noisier hotel room. All hours of the night people bungled up and down those steps soundin' like thunder or boulders rolling around in a giant tin can. Shook the whole place.
BUT.
It was REALLY nice to be so close to the park. Seriously-- like seventy-five feet from "The Crosswalk," just a hop-skip-and-a-jump to Disneyland. :) And the room wasn't too bad. Far from great, but it's a place to drop, right? It was really nice having a fridge, and the air conditioner provided a lot of white noise that helped with the ambient cacaphony. I saw only one insect in the room throughout our stay, and it was a moth. Not too bad. We paid 59$ a night, and for that amount--if I could get a room FAR from the stairs--I'd probably stay at the Desert Inn again.
The end. ;)

BWPPI is also very close as is Park Vue, they and DI are probably the closest to DL Maingate than perhaps even GCH.
