Hotel near John Wayne airport with free shuttle. More questions first timer

Hello at the end of my proposed Adventures By Disney trip, I had the suggestion by another DIS'er to fly home via John Wayne airport instead of lugging back to LAX. ABD is even giving me a transportation voucher to use on departure day to go to John Wayne airport and I decided I would like to stay overnight near the airport and fly home next morning.

From what I see on the map this is near or is Newport Beach. Is there a hotel near the airport that has complimentary or reasonable shutter service that would allow me to enjoy the town of Newport for a day or are these hotels all sitting on a highway with no real way to enjoy the beach without a car.

Have never been to CA (well 25 years ago I was in Laguna but don't recall much!)

Any help would be appreciated. My goal was to not stay at the Disney hotel on the bonus night b/c rate was SO high and flying out of John Wayne allowed me to maybe see Newport Beach which I wouldn't have been able to . I am open to any thoughts and am pretty clueless on all of this! thank you!

There are quite a few hotels near SNA. We are partial to Marriotts and I believe that there is one of each of their sub-brands. As far as I know they all offer free airport shuttle service. The two I've personally stayed at are the Irvine Marriott (full service) and the Costa Mesa Marriott.

Thanks jeff. I found one right across the street from fashion island that is marriott. They don't offer beach shuttle but only 1.5 mile taxi to beach. Ravi to hotel about 15. I wish I could be on the beach but the Marriott Laguna is full . Is the fashion island bow offer things to do it is there a better location? I would live to go to fashion island or Laguna beach. Any beach hotel thoughts or is the fashion island positioned well enough ?
