I just came back from my Disney trip and since nobody here seemed familiar with this hotel, I thought I might give you my opinion.

Access to Park: It is not really within walking distance of Disneyland, even though they say it is. I'm a walker too, but there is no way I'd attempt that walk after a long day at the park. You have to cross over the freeway and it may not be the best area to be out after dark. It's a half mile just to the parking lot by driving and I think it's a lot longer if you walk. They do have a shuttle, but we had a rental car, so we didn't bother to take it.

The park is a five minute drive from the hotel, and parking and taking the tram in to Disney is so convenient that from hotel to entrance we were there in 15 minutes. I recommend this hotel for a person who has a rental car.

The Hotel: This place is absolutely gorgeous. The pictures on their site don't do it justice. You walk into the lobby and you feel like you are staying at a luxury resort and not a hotel/motel. Oh, and the pool, with the mist bar? Spectacular. If you like to leave the park and come back for swimming, this is a place for you. The bar is separated from the pool by a gate, but you can bring drinks in if you like, and they have a bar menu for snacks. The pool is clean, gorgeous, with palm trees swaying overhead....tropical plants everywhere. It was a very relaxed, upscale SoCal vibe.

They advertise that you can see the fireworks from the pool, and oh boy, can you ever! At night, my young son would swim in the pool while watching the fireworks boom over his head. We relaxed on the padded deck chairs and it seemed the sparkles were coming down right on top of us. We got to see the best of the fireworks without the crowds. It was heaven.

The rooms: The rooms are also beautiful. Everything is done in creams, chocolates, bronzes. We, unfortunately, got a room that faced the service entry in a hall, so there was very little light, but considering how much time we spent in there, it didn't matter. We had a King with a pull-out Queen, adequate enough for our family. It was very clean. Best of all, we had a plasma HDTV! I almost wish I'd had more time to watch TV. :D There are no refrigerators, and no continental breakfast, so if you are going to have a quick breakfast before going to the park, you'll have to make do on your own or eat at Disney, as we did one day. Our room was quiet. If you face the freeway or the pool, you might experience some noise, but that's just a guess.

The service:The service was adequate by Southern California standards. I live in Sacramento, and each time I go down south I am surprised at how rude everybody is. (except at Disneyland!) But, this hotel manages, for the most part, to keep their employees pleasant. However, a BIG NEGATIVE for me was that they advertise free Wi-fi. I brought my 17 inch laptop and I'd subscribed to RideMax so I could update my days as need be...there was no Wi-Fi. I called down to the desk, and I got a story that it was down, but that I could sign up for Earthlink and they would reimburse me. As a net denizen of 20 years now, I know better. Earthlink is like AOL - once they get your credit and ID information they never let you go. I told the desk clerk that and she rolled her eyes and said she'd pass that info along. They do have a conference room with computers, but I couldn't use my own PC there. I did manage to attach myself to another hotel's network for one night, but the second night they insisted I put in a room number, so that was that for my internet connection.

The restaurant: We ate at Mimi's once and the hotel restaurant, called K'ya three times. The service was very slow all three times. Don't eat breakfast there if you intend to get to the park on time, or at least, give yourself plenty of time - at least an hour. The food was good. Not great, but good. For dinner once, I ordered a flat iron steak with caramelized onions but got a filet mignon instead, with the same ingredients. It was very good, just an interesting substitution that they never mentioned. They have a "bistro" menu for smaller plates too, and a kids menu. Breakfasts are huge. I had eggs benedict and huevos rancheros - couldn't eat all of either.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel, mainly for the pool, which was wonderful, and the rooms, which are beautiful. I would stay there again, absolutely. If you like a little bit of luxury with your Disney vacation, this may be the place for you.

Hi justapixel. :)

Thanks for the info on this hotel that us disers obviously know nothing about. :thumbsup2

If the rooms & common areas are better than the pics, then this place must be really nice (cause the pics are nice....i remember when you posted a couple of weeks ago).

Obviously for us guys who like to walk to DLR it won't be our first choice, but nice to know about this place. (I DO WONDER ABOUT THE SHUTTLE, THOUGH....Do you have any idea if they drop off or pickup very often? Is is possible to be dropped off a full 1/2 hour before EE (or non EE rope drop?)

Also, justapixel, did you get your EE?? We were rooting for you. :hippie:

I hope you guys had a good time....if you feel like it tell us about it.

Welcome back!

I honestly don't know about the shuttle. (I had shuttle passes, which I left in a drawer in the room - hopefully the next guest will find them and not the maid!) I didn't ask about shuttle times, I'm sorry.

If you want to stay across from the park, this place may not be for you, but if you have a car, definitely give it a try. If you are considering it, call and ask about shuttle times.

We did make our early entry, and it was great! They upgraded us to three day park hoppers, and so we spend three days there. (Okay, 2 1/2) Like I said, with a car, from the hotel to the park entrance (after taking the tram) was only 15 minutes. It was very convenient. We got there in plenty of time to do the fantasyland rides and, more importantly, grab our fast passes for the rides with long lines. (Although, Splash Mountain was closed a lot that day and that was high on our list.)

I'll post a little review of my Disneyland trip, since you asked. :) Since I'm a relative newbie to Disney, it will be fun to share my thoughts with you vets.

I have to run errands nows but I'll post back later. Thanks Hound!

Thanks for the report on this hotel, which was formerly Holiday Inn Anaheim - The Park. To us locals this would seem to be a terrible location, tucked in a triangle between Harbor Blvd, Ball Road, and the I-5, but since you didn't mention freeway noise I guess it's not so bad. Maybe we'll point out-of-town visitors there so we have an excuse to visit the grounds and watch the fireworks up close. ;)

Sounds like a great trip!

Is their shuttle service a dedicated shuttle for hotel guests only? Or is it part of the ART shuttle route? And to answer Hounds question partially - if it is ART then they do start running 1 hour prior to park opening and 1 hour prior to EE on EE days.

Also, do you mind divulging what the hotels rates are like? $100+, $150+, $200 or more?

Thanks!

Hi justapixel. :)

Thanks!

My rate was $116.00 per night, for four people: one King, one Queen pull-out. Very reasonable, I thought.

The restaurant food is rather expensive though - not for a person on a budget. The menu is online if you want to see it.

Part of the hotel does face the freeway. Our section didn't. They do have sound walls, and the pool was on the freeway side, but I didn't notice the sound. They had some nice piped-in music and the area was very pleasant. But, I would imagine that freeway noise for some rooms would be a strong possibility so if that would bother you, be careful and ask for another room. I am a "white noise" person - can't sleep without it. I almost wish I'd been on the freeway side, I might have slept better. :)

If your entire goal is to spend opening to closing in the park, then you might be best served elsewhere. But, we don't have that kind of stamina :cool2: so the nicer pool and rooms and bar and restaurant were very worth it to us.

I have to say, watching the fireworks by the pool was a highlight. If a picture turned out, I'll post one.

I am at their website but I don't see where you can see photos. I did see the mist bar and a sample room but that's it. :confused3

Thanks for your time!

justapixel, I am staying in Sept. I'm glad I read your review. I was on the fence about it. But Expedia just had a 24 hour sale on this hotel and I got it for less than $100 each night. After reading your review I am glad I booked it!

I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I have never really considered staying that far away from the park, but if I ever to intend on upgrading my stay to a more luxurious one, that will be near top of my list. Thanks again!!

Well, I just have to pipe in and share my experience here in April 2008.

True - the lobby is very nice, the pool area fabulous and rates good (I also got a great Expedia rate). The double lounge type things at the pool were especially cool looking and comfy. And they had some covered cabanas which are typically only at high end resorts. The music was a bit loud and non stop. If planning a pool day at your motel, this would be a plus.

We unfortunately asked for a pool view room which meant we faced the freeway and it was VERY LOUD ALL THE TIME! We asked to be moved but they could not accomodate us. I requested a mini frig prior to check again, again at check in and the third time an hour after waiting in the room. I was told twice it was coming. It never did. I gave up and went to the parks. The second day when I called about it the front desk girl admitted that they were all being used and I would not get one. Well, just tell me the first time - there are none available, I hate it when they lie! I felt the rooms had some very nice new ammenites (fawcetts, wall pix, bedding, TV's), however the room itself was obviously very old and it showed. I can appreciate a hotel from the 60's getting a current update, but it was still an old hotel that needs work. I stubbed my toe twice on the concrete type foundation holding the beds - don't you hate that? The shuttle was a joke. It is the ART, which is fine, but the front desk says to ask the bellman what the schedule is and the bellman says ask the front desk. Twice I had to wait 20-30 minutes. I have stayed at other motels on the ART shuttle and someone working there knows exactly what time the shuttle will come. So you can plan to be down there with a minimum wait. And yes, the walk is too far. Parking is $10 per day, per car. Overall, it was an "okay" experience, but I will not return. For the same price I much prefer The Candy Cane Inn, either Sheraton or Hojo's. Just wanted to share.:)

Thanks for your reports. I was very interested to read people's experiences at the hotel. I visited it when they were almost done renovating it. I went into a room up on the 5th floor overlooking the pool, and closed the door. The traffic noise was very loud. I was hoping that they would put double-paned windows to block out the noise.

The pool is one of the best in the area. Really beautiful, but I thought the business center was kind of "unique" looking because everything in there was red.

I'd like to go back & visit the hotel and the restaurant, too. It's supposed to have really good dinners.
