Hope to stay 4 or 5 days in July. Would like a clean budget hotel. A plus would be walking distance so we could come and go as we like. Any suggestions. How about dble tree, quality suites or comfort suites?:confused3

not an expert here but I think the only walking (or boating)hotels to Universal are the three onsite hotels.....

Thanks. Sounds like walking distance is a matter of opinion. Maybe I'll ck into the universal hotels but they are $$. We could take a shuttle. Most hotels do offer shuttles.

Unless they've updated and cleaned up the place since we were there a few years ago, I would not recommend the Days Inn Maingate. There was a big hole in the concrete on the upstairs path to our room. The parking lot was dark and creepy. Definately not the "Disney" feeling when we stay onsite at the "World" or in DTD.
We still took our car over and parked in the Universal Lot.

Living right here in good old Orlando, there is a Double tree twin towers right across from the entrance to Universal. I do see people all the time walking across the street to Universal. Mind you though once you get across the street you have to walk the distance of the Parking lot. It is a good walk. Have fun!

We stayed on IDrive and from the bus stop it was only a 20 min gentle walk to the bus station at universal. Nice straight road too. Its a possibility worth considering as obviously you would get a lot more choice of accommodation on IDrive.

I got the Sheraton Studio City on Hotwire for $60/night (including all taxes and fees). Its half a mile from Universal.

Besides the three onsite resorts, Doubletree and Holiday Inn are within walking distance. It might be a bit too much of a walk with small kids though.

I highly recommend the onsite Royal Pacific. Sometimes they run special deals. Keep in mind that you get the Park Express pass with your room stay. If you have 4 or 5 people, it would be worth it to splurge on a room, especially if you are going during a busy time when Express Pass is about $50 per person and there are lots of crowds.

This is a budget trip this year. Only me and ds 10. I checked into niuversal hotels and they were too much. I might try Priceline but I am still trying to figure out the free bid. Would love to stay on site. We do at WDW and its great. But its a budget trip or nothting this year. I am wanting a 3* hotel at a 2* price. So far Best Western or Quality Inn and Suites have the best rate.:surfweb: :goodvibes

I bid on Priceline all the time. I bid today for 8/6-8/9. I bid $54 (which was 68 with tax) and got the Crowne Plaza Universal. In the past I have bid about the same and received... Sheraton Studio City (loved it) and Doubletree (last time we had a stinky room and hated it) I have stayed at that Doubletree and liked it though. It's hard to bid on a 2 star with the free bid because most of the areas have 2 star options. Good luck:) PM me if you have any ?????
