The next time I'm flying from Vancouver to Orlando, I'm flying through Pearson with a 10-hour stopover (10:30 pm to 6:30 am). Is there a hotel in or near the airport where I could spend the time? TIA

There is a Sheraton connected to terminal 3 - you can take the sky link tram there if you're coming in via AC.

There is also an aloft at the sky link terminus. These are probably your most convenient places to stay.

Most larger hotels probably have shuttles that you can take as well. Recommend checking tripadvisor to see which one suits you.

I stayed at the Alt on Wed night, our second stay, it was great and getting to the airport on the train is so easy.

Clean hotel with the modern IKEA feel.

No pool though,

mkmommy, I'd never heard of Alt Hotels. That's an interesting choice. Can you tell me more about the transportation to and from the airport? You said there is a train. TIA

That would be the one I thought was aloft.

take the terminal LINK train to the parking garage and its there.

Just as an additional FYI - I think the Union Pearson express will be open by the time you travel here. You access it in roughly the same place as you do the LINK train, so please make sure you get on the right train! Downtown Toronto is lovely at night (albeit not as nice as many parts of BC) but I'm pretty certain you don't want to make an unexpected detour after a cross country flight.

Consider whether the hassle and cost is worth it to you. If you land at 10:30, by the time you disembark, get your bags, check in at the hotel and get to your room, it's likely midnight. If your flight is at 6:30, you'll need to be at the airport by 5, at the latest, which means you are probably checking out at 4:30. Factor in time to change and shower at the hotel, and you are probably catching three hours of sleep. Did that once with my family, as my daughter was small at the time, and ended up paying close to $300 to stay at the Sheraton for 5 hours.

You might want to look to see if you can buy a pass for the lounges at Pearson. Air Canada has one and I think there is another one that is affiliated with American Express? Comfy chairs. Complimentary food and drinks. Showers. Not having to travel and pay to stay in a hotel. That would be my first choice were I in your shoes.

Only issue with the Air Canada and other airport lounges is that they aren't 24 hours...most only open around 5ish I think.

Good point. If I recall correctly, the AC lounge does close for the evening at around the same time the last AC flight departs and then opens up again a few hours before the first AC flight of the day.

OP - forget my suggestion - it won't work for you.

The Alt Hotel seems to have some good rates-just checked and they have weekend rates with $25 dining card (for breakfast) for $149 a night.

I wouldn't worry to much about getting on the express train by mistake even when it does open It's in a seperate are from the link trains.

the link trains board on either side in this are and currently have blue wraps on them. The express train is at a slightly different level then them so you have to go up to them from the link train station. Both sides of the platform serve all stops Terminal 1 and the parking lot are the end points.

Great suggestion! I didn't know about that option. I'll definitely check into that.

Thanks for clarifying. That'll certainly make things easier.

your welcome I actually went out just to get them plus I kind o wanted to see what it looked like in person. The hardest part is actually finding where the TTC bus stop is to get back to Kipling subway satiation.

We really liked the Alt hotel as well. The rooms are small but really cute.

Last two trips out of YYZ Ive stayed at the Hilton Airport and its really nice. Nice free shuttle to the airport.

We've done the Sheraton for an overnight layover in the winter and it had one distinct advantage. You never step outside. We left our winter gear in the car at YOW (covered parking) walked into the terminal, and didn't have to step outside again until we stepped off the plane in San Jose del Cabo. This was an AC flight, so the Skylink was required to get from T1 to T3, but that is all indoors as well.

It was a pretty short sleep however, especially as this was during the last AC "work action." We had two delays before departing YOW and then baggage from our Ottawa flight took about an hour to arrive on the carousel. The baggage handler was putting 1 bag on the carousel every two or three minutes. But the hotel was fine, and we had no issues with our departure the next morning. You could sleep a bit longer as well since you are already at the airport.
