I could use some help from DL vets about what hotel to stay at. My DH and I are taking our DD12 and DD2 in Oct to celebrate DD12's birthday. We had booked Paradise Pier at the AP rate. Since then, we've had to change the dates, and when we called Disney, were told that PP has no availability for this new date. DD12 and I have narrowed our off-site options to 4, and I would love some input from anyone who may have stayed at these properties. Our criteria are 1) must be within walking distance; 2) a refrigerator; and 3) a decent clean place to sleep.

We've narrowed it down to either Castle Inn and Suites, Tropicana, Camelot Inn, or Fairfield. All of the prices are relatively close, so that's not a factor.

Thanks for any opinions.

There was a review on one of the travel sites from someone who stayed at Castle in early July and said they noticed bed bugs. Was enough for me to cross that one off of our list. And a bummer because ds would have loved the castle theme!

I too would leave out the "Castle", you can't go wrong with the rest though, of the three Tropicana is the closest, then Camelot then FF

We were originally going 10/20 to 10/23. We've had to change it to 10/22 to 10/25. On travelocity I can still book the PP, but really we were only going to stay there because of the AP rate. Otherwise, I would just as soon save the money and stay off property.

HoJo has their Entertainment rate available, but only for 2 nights of your 4-night stay. ($59 standard, $74 deluxe room). Otherwise a standard would run you $109. Also they're showing no availability for Fri/Sat. Those October weekends get so busy, with the Halloween parties!

I'd book ASAP, since the hotels are really filling up fast for Oct. I agree with PP, start with Tropicana and see what you can get. They're all ok hotels.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I went ahead and booked the Fairfield for our stay. It's a decent price, and the reviews on expedia made it sound pretty good. Here's hoping it's a good experience.

Hey StitchFan, I just returned last night from 7 nights at the Fairfield and you can rest at ease that you made a good choice for your hotel. The hotel is very nice. We loved the location and thought the staff was incredible. The beds are very comfy (have memory foam toppers) and each queen bed has 5 pillows. The pull out chair is great so the kids can sleep alone if they want. The pull out was great for our 12 year old.

We have stayed on site the last 2 times (DLH and GC) and although the Fairfield does not have those extra Disney touches we saved a ton of money by staying at the Fairfield and it is a very decent hotel and would gladly stay there again.

A really nice touch is that every day they have two glass dispensers filled with iced citrus water - both lemon and lime - for guests to have a drink when they return to the hotel. We drank that water every day. It is a small thing, but after being out in the sun and walking back to the hotel it was so appreciated.

Enjoy your trip!

We stayed at the Camelot Inn earlier this year, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. It suited us just fine. I liked the fact they had breakfast in the morning, even though it was basic, it was enough to get us going. They have fridge/microwaves in the rooms, and laundry facilities on site. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub. It's right next door to McDonalds, and a very short walk to the DL entrance.

One last question....the Fairfield comes with refrigerators, right? On expedia it said they did, but on the Fairfield website it doesn't mention anything. We're planning on getting a birthday cake for DD12, and I would like to have someplace to put the leftovers.

Any of those three would be good options. They are all within walking distance, Camelot has a pool on an upper floor, while Tropicana's pool is in the middle of their parking lot. Camelot & Tropicana both offer simple continental breakfast, and of the three, Tropicana is the closest to the parks' entrance, if that means anything to you.

I would price them out and pick the one that saves you the most.

Yes they do have refrigerators at the Fairfield. They are just small bar fridges. It should be fine as long as it is not a huge cake.
