Hotel Help?

Hiya all.

I am looking at a going to Disneyland California and I am wondering which hotel would be the best for us to stay at, Paradise pier or the Disneyland Hotel? we will have a 5 year old girl with us.

Also is concierge worth the extra?

We are traveling from the UK so will probably stay 2 weeks and visit some other theme parks and attractions as well.

I haven't stayed at the Disneyland hotel in many years, but stayed at the Paradise Pier last year. I thought it was nice. From the many discussions I've read about which resort hotel is the best for kids, most have said the Disneyland is because of the themed Neverland pool. I wouldn't know if concierge is worth the extra money because I've never done it. Good luck on deciding!

I would pick the DLH. My girls love to stay there (ages 7 and 9). They love the little Disney touches and spend hours in the pool. I have stayed at the DLH with and without the concierge service. Depends how long we stay and the season. I love the concierge in the fall--the park closes early so it is nice to be able to go to the lounge and hang out. During busy times, I'd rather stay in the park and miss that glass of wine!

Another bonus (I found with kids) is that the DLH is very close to DTD. We tend to spend a lot of time at DTD--Rainforest, etc. The DLH feels more 'resort-like' than the PPH.

Hi, we will be going in September as the flights will be cheaper.

Finding it really hard to decided as there is not one that is jumping out at me as the place to stay unlike Disneyland Paris or WDW.

I am now thinking the grand californian.

If you can afford it, go for it!

GC is a lovely hotel and very convenient!

I agree, if you can afford it, GC is the best and is in the middle of the 2 parks, not nearly the walk as the other 2. They have activities for kids like story telling in the lobby, too. Also, they have a child care service in the evenings - a "club" for children, too. I'm not sure of all the details but here:

I like all 3 Disney hotels, but will generally only stay at Paradise Pier if I am able to get a much better rate than the other 2. PP was not originally a Disney property, and basically feels like a normal 3 star hotel. The other 2 have more of a resort feel with nice grounds, nicer shops and amenities. PP is also a little away from the action. The DLH is the biggest with the most shops and restaurants. Its very festive and has the most Disney touches. The GCH is the newest, and definitely my favorite. It's a lovely hotel, and is oh so convenient. But it is pricey. While I've never regretted staying there, I can't say it's worth the extra money. I guess if I was coming all the way from the UK and could afford to do things right, I would probably put out the extra $$ for the GCH, or perhaps consider splitting my stay if I wanted to save a few bucks.

I usually just travel with one or occassionally two people, so concierge is not something that ever seemed worth the money to me. You should have access to vacation planning whether or not you stay concierge. I'd say its for those that can afford to splurge, or have large parties that will take advantage of the spreads.
