Hotel for 3/4- Further away due to convention

That explains the hotel prices. Would you avoid Disneyland that weekend? I’m trying to decide between two weekends: Feb 29-March 1 or March 8-9. I would prefer 8-9, but the hotel prices are INSANE!

we picked 2/29 for our stayover weekend, got hyatt place Anaheim, it said free breakfast and shuttle so should be a good weekend. I think our price is around $150 (after all the taxes but before parking)

Expo West is the 2nd largest show at Anaheim Convention Center each year after NAMM with about 90,000 attendees, but it is heavily attended by solo business travelers. Historically, while it decimates hotel availability, it hasn’t made much of a dent in the crowds at DLP. March is somewhat busy all month.

We’re down in Irvine that weekend and I think I grabbed a room for $125/night right by 405/jamboree.

might try to park at a hotel on Harbor to avoid the structure

Everything I’ve read says the conference doesn’t really affect park attendance.

That’s the weekend before the huge convention begins! So you chose wisely! Prices seem to go up the following Tuesday and stay crazy until Sunday.

San Clemente is the magic distance to get a nice affordable hotel rate during this convention. Hampton Inn is only $122 and Nomads B&B is $99. Not as close as I was hoping, but that cuts off at least 35-40 minutes of the drive. It’s probably about 30 minutes from San Clemente to DL?

I have stayed at all the Hilton branded hotels in Garden Grove and recommend them all. Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn and Suites and Embassy Suites all give you a full hot breakfast. They also have shuttles to the park. I always walked or drove my car. It's a 20-30 minute walk.

Doubletree is usually more expensive than those above and has a continental breakfast or you can pay for the hot breakfast. They give you a big and warm cookie when you check in (one of my daughters loves that).

There are several other Embassy Suites a little further south that I see from interstate 5. None of them are a far drive.

I know Irvine and Newport Beach were mentioned and those are great places, too, but they are further away and you can really get something similar much closer for a decent rate.

Yes, but all of the hotels/motels in Garden Grove, Irvine, etc are crazy expensive or booked this week due to the huge health foods convention in Anaheim. Even Newport Beach seems to be affected. What’s left is either ridiculous in cost or sketchy. I’m just looking for something for one night so we don’t have to get up at 5am and drive in from San Diego. Any other week, these suggestions would totally work! Thanks!!!

I’m going to check Embassy Suites! Thanks!

San Clemente seems to be far enough away that the convention isn’t affecting pricing. Not as close as I’d like, but it cuts our drive in half and we can get up at 7 instead of 5!

San Clemente is a hike, I did score a hotel in Irvine for $135 a night (just confirmed, ignore my last post) a few weeks ago. My other go to hotel (Hyatt Regency by the airport) is showing $163/night and it’s a quick jump onto 55 north from there.

goodluck all!

I’ll check out Hyatt Regency by the airport!!!! Thank you! I just have to keep looking. 🤪

Have you considered taking the train from San Diego to Anaheim?

Anyhow, on Expedia, it says the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel is $159/night for check-in on March 4th and check-out on March 5th. Plus taxes, it's about $182. Is that too steep for you?

Heads up: Amtrak just cancelled their surfliner trains for March 7 & 8 due to track work. Dates around big closures tend to be a mess with delays.

Have you looked at Fullerton? I've stayed at a Holiday Inn in Fullerton a couple times during D23 when the other hotels were crazy expensive.

I can’t take the train by myself with the kids..... I need car seats to get them to the parks. Plus I’d rather just drive and leave early and miss the traffic. But one day we will do the train- when my husband comes too so I can have some help. The kids are dying to try it and we can catch it very close to the house in solana beach.

I think I may book Knott’s Berry. As long as it’s under $200 we are good! Thanks!!!!

My daughter has a random day off from school March 5&6. Unfortunately there is a huge convention in Anaheim that week, and hotel prices have been astronomical for awhile. I’m trying to avoid driving up Thursday morning and back Thursday evening. Are there any nice and safe areas that are further enough away so the hotels won’t be crazy high so we don’t have to drive up early from San Diego? Any hotel suggestions?

Candy Cane Inn is pretty easy to walk from, since it's not on hotel search sites it often has rooms left when everything looks booked - and also does not seem to increase prices around events like conventions. It looks like they have a lot of room options open for 3/4 currently:

I live in San Clemente. It is 45 minutes to Mickey and Friends IF there is no traffic. And you do want to go to Mickey and Friends that weekend, not Toy Story because the streets are CRAZY packed with convention traffic.

Personally, though, I’d stay in Mission Viejo, Lake Forest or Irvine over San Clemente (although San Clemente is a great place to visit for another time!). You’ll be so much closer to the parks.

Thanks for the great advice. I’ll keep trying to find something in Irvine and I’ll check out the other two places as well.
