Hi, I have a question for all of you Disney veterans. I have a friend giving us 5 nights with their DVC points. We would like to add two more nights to our vacation staying at another Disney hotel. Can Disney link these reservations? I am wondering because we would want to use Magic Express and the Dining plan and I am trying to make it as seemless as possible.

Thanks for your help.:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :flower3:

No they can't link them. If you want the dining plan you would need to have tickets on each package. It isn't a problem with DME staying at two different resorts.

Welcome to the DIS.

If you stayed on your cash nights first, you could get one ticket for all seven/eight days. You don't need to purchase a ticket to get the DDP when you stay on DVC points. But if you did the points stay first, you would still have to purchase at least a one day ticket for the two night cash stay and you would need a package. A points stay cannot be linked to a cash stay unless you are staying in the DVC villa on cash with a reservation through MS (and you are the member).

Summing this all up ....

You want to stay at the regular resort FIRST and then the DVC resort second. Do it this way and it will be cheaper than in the opposite order. Why? It has nothing to do with common sense, and everything to do with Disney's rules and prices.

Buying the Disney Dining Plan (DDP) has different rules for regular resort stays and for DVC points stays. If you are paying cash for a resort, the only way to buy the DDP is to book it as part of a package. In Disney-speak, a package must include a theme park ticket of at least one day.

When you stay on DVC points, there is no ticket/package purchase requirement to buy the DDP.

Take a breath and digest the above. I'll wait ...:rolleyes1

GOOD!

Now, the other tidbit of info is that theme park tickets get cheaper per day the more days you buy. If you stay at the "cash" resort first, you can buy a 7-day base ticket for about $233 per adult; this will cover every day you are at both resorts (assuming you want to go to a theme park each day).

If you stay at the DVC resort first, you'd want to buy a 6-day ticket; the reason is that in order to buy the DDP for your later stay at the "cash" resort you'll need to buy at least a 1-day ticket as part of a package at that resort. A 6-day ticket will cost you about $231 (only two dollars less than the 7-day ticket!!!) and the 1-day ticket will cost you about $76. So if you stay DVC first, your total theme park ticket cost will be about $307, compared with $233 if you stay at the "cash" resort first.

I know it sounds complicated, but as you learn more about the ins-and-outs of WDW it'll be a lot easier to understand.

So make those "other" reservations for the days BEFORE your DVC points stay, and save yourself some bucks!

I really appreciate it !!! I knew that I could find the answer here :)

Thanks !!!!!

Okay I am going to throw a monkey wrench into what others have said. Yes you can do it. In 2005 my sister gave us enough points to stay in a studio at OKW 5 nights, Sun - Thurs. There was 5 of us myself, DH, DS19, DS17 and DD9. So a studio wouldn't work. My sister told us how to rent from someone else, they already had another vacation planned. The other dvc member we rented from transferred points from their account to hers for us, used a three way phone call with MS, and she made the reservation for a 2bedroom at OKW for 5 nights for us. We used paypal to pay for the extra points we rented and it was all very painless. When we wanted to go again this year we atomatilcaly went to rent points from a member again. Again a very simple processs. Hope all this helps.

Almost fogot if you want the Dinning Plan make sure to let the dvc member you are renting from to put it on the reservation. DVC members don't have to add it to a plan. You pay for it in full when you check in but it does have to be on the reservations ahead of time. Good luck.

You're talking about a different situation than the one the OP described. You had two DVC reservations, both made on points through Member Services, both in the DVC reservation system.

The OP is talking about one DVC reservation on points made through MS, and one cash reservation (presumably at a non-DVC resort), made through CRO. DVC and CRO use different reservation systems.
